Amare To The Sixers?

4 02 2010

According to a report from ESPN, the Philadelphia 76ers and Pheoeix Suns are discussing a deal that would send Andre Iguodala and Samuel Dalembert to the Suns in exchange for Amare Stoudemire.  According to the report, the Sixers are the side holding up the deal.

The trade makes sense for both sides, as the Sixers are desperate to unload Dalembert and have shown a willingness to package him with Iguodala in order to do so.  For the Suns, Stoudemire is seeking a max contract and a willingness from the Suns organization to spend more in order to improve the team…neither is going to happen.

Eagles Want To Keep Vick?

Mike Lombardi is reporting that the Philadelphia Eagles intend to keep Mike Vick and have no intentions of trading him.  Mike Florio has posted a video doubting the motives behind the Eagles’ proclamation.  You can check it out here.

Sacramento Kings Interested In Dalembert

1 02 2010

Samuel DalembertAccording to the Sacramento Bee, league sources polled this week say that the Philadelphia 76ers and New York Knicks are the two teams most actively seeking trades prior to the deadline, with the 76ers shopping some of their bigger contracts, small forward Andre Iguodala (with four seasons remaining and a combined $56.5 million overall) and center Samuel Dalembert ($12.9 million fior next season). The article indicates that the Kings have shown interest in acquiring Dalembert.

Sixers: Iggy On The Move?

28 01 2010

by Michael DeLuca

The Sixers have been trying to dump Samuel Dalembert and his $13 million 2010-2011 salary off on the Houston Rockets since news broke that Yao Ming would miss the entire 09-10 season.  Their hope was to get back the expiring contract of Tracy McGrady, though fillers would be necessary on Philly’s end.  Trade talks have resumed recently and, according to Katie Fagan of the Philadelphia Inquirer, a source close to the situation has confirmed that the Houston Rockets will only discuss a deal with the Sixers if it involves Andre Iguodala.  Iguodala was considered an untouchable by Sixers’ GM Ed Stefanski as recently as a season ago but this is the second trade scenario he’s been linked to this week, the first one involving the Cleveland Cavaliers.  Iggy has more than $56 million remaining on his contract, which includes three more seasons.

PCPTAKE:   A Dalembert/Iguodala for McGrady & Chase Buddinger deal would make a lot of sense for the both teams.  The Sixers would shed two large contracts, allowing them to be players in the star studded 2010 free agent market & Buddinger is a decent prospect that could absorb some of Iggy’s minutes while developing.

Phils Interested In Lowry

28 01 2010

Scott Lauber of the News Journal is reporting that the Philadelphia Phillies will be one of approximately 15 teams in attendance for 29-year-old left hander Noah Lowry’s Tuesday audtion.  Lowry is seeking a one-year deal after battling thoracic outlet syndrome for the past several years.  Lowry has not been an effective pitcher since 2005 but was once believed to be one of the most promising prospect in baseball (and member of my fantasy team).

Victorino Inks 3 Year Pact

22 01 2010

The Phillies have signed center fielder Shane Victorino to a three-year deal worth $22 million dollars. The contract buys out Victorino’s two remaining arbitration eligible years and will keep Victorino in Philly through 2012 unless he is traded. The pact was first reported by Craig Calcaterra of Circling The Bases.

Maclin Gets Rookie Of The Year Vote

6 01 2010

No no no, Jeremy Maclin didn’t win the Rookie of the Year Voting…but he did get ONE vote for rookie of the year.  Minnesota’s Percy Harvin took home the honors, with Maclin, Knowshon Moreno of Denver, and Pittsburgh’s Mike Wallace each receiving a vote a piece.  Maclin finished his rookie campaign with 55 catches for 762 yards and 4 touchdowns.

Philly Sports: Quick Scoops

5 01 2010

EAGLES:  A few days back I told you to keep an eye on TCU’s Jerry Hughes as a potential draft selection of the Philadelphia Eagles.  In last night’s Fiesta Bowl, Hughes went without a sack but did apply constant pressure on Boise State’s quarterback Kellen Moore.  Hughes forced a fumble in the game and deflected a pass from Moore.  We’ve got a long way to go until the combine and draft, but Hughes name will likely be in play for the Philadelphia Eagles, who will draft towards the bottom of round 1 (maybe not too far to the bottom considering last week’s performance).

PHILLIES:  According to MLB.com’s Todd Zolecki the Phils have extended a minor league offer to relief pitcher Scott Eyre.  In other news, the team has agreed to a contract with Danny Baez pending a physical.  Baez has the highest ground ball to fly ball ration of all available relievers and thus should be a good fit for Citizen’s Bank Park.

76ers:  The team finished up a 5 game West Coast road trip with a victory over the Denver Nuggets.  The team went 3-2 on the swing and may be turning the corner now that Lou Williams and Mareerse Speights are healthy and the players’s roles are becoming more clearly defined in new head coach Eddie Jordan’s system.  Elton Brand continues to impress as the most overpaid 6th man in the NBA.

Philadelphia 2010 Draft Outlook

30 12 2009

by Michael DeLuca

Sure there’s a week to go in the 09′-10′ NFL regular season.  We’re not even sure exactly where the Birds will be drafting in the 2010 NFL draft.  What we do know is, it will be somewhere at the bottom of the first round…as usual for the always competitive Philadelphia team.  Many will argue, and correctly so, that densive end is the biggest need for the Eagles.  One guy who should be available and, in my opinion, would be a terrific fit for the Eagles blitz heavy scheme is TCU’s Jerry Hughes.  Hughes is a hybrid player, in the Terrell Suggs mold.  He has an explosive first step and amassed 15 sacks in 2008, his first year as a full time starter and led the undefeated Horned Frogs in sacks (11.5) and tackles for losses (15) in 09′.  On January 5, TCU will play Boise State in the Fiesta Bowl.  Keep an eye on Hughes and let me know how you think he’d look in Eagle Green!

DeSean Jackson Named Starting WR/KR In Pro Bowler

29 12 2009

So much for DeSean Jackson being slighted in the Pro Bowl process this year.  Jackson has been named not only a starting receiver for the NFC team but has been named the starting kick returner as well!  Jackson’s selection to the duel roles is a first in the history of the NFL Pro Bowl.  Let’s hope he doesn’t get a chance to play in the game though, since the two teams participating in the Super Bowl will not send representatives to the annual all star game which  is now held the week before Super Bowl Sunday.

Joining Jackson on the Pro Bowl roster are fellow starters Leonard Weaver, Jason Peters, Asante Samuel, and David Akers.  Trent Cole was named to the team as a reserve.  The Minnesota Vikings bested the Eagles for most players on the NFC roster with eight representatives.

In addition to the six players on the Pro Bowl roster, three players were selected as alternates.  Donovan McNabb was selected as a first alternate, while Sheldon Brown and Brent Celek were selected as second alternates.
