Scouts Inc.’s Matt Williamson is very high on Eagles (current) backup quarterback Kevin Kolb. Williamson had the following to say regarding Kolb, “I think he can make every throw. He’s a quick decision-maker, and he’s a good enough athlete. Kolb has everything you want physically, and the ball comes out of his hand really nice. He has an awful lot of upside, almost like a Matt Schaub when he was in Atlanta or Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay [waiting] behind Brett Favre. Kolb just needs to get a crack at it. I kind of feel like he’s the next guy to be breaking out, either with his present team or with a new team.”

Kolb Questions
13 02 2010
There are multiple reports circulating regarding Eagles backup quarterback Kevin Kolb. Garry Cobb is reporting that the Eagles and Kolb’s agent are currently engaged in talks regarding a long term deal. The Birds are denying the report but Cobb is standing by it. Meanwhile, Mike Lombardi of nationalfootballpost.com is speculating on a trade that would send Kolb to the Cleveland Browns in exchange for defensive tackle Shaun Rogers.

Ax Man Back! A Reunion of Sorts for JR’s Ramblings!
29 09 2009Just when I thought YOU weren’t getting a Tuesday Ramblings, the Eagles went and made another odd move in what seems like an endless supply since last free agency started. We’ve been through them all so I won’t re-hash, but really, did you ever think Jeremiah Trotter would be back on this team in any other capacity besides, “team ambassador.” I knew you didn’t. Anyways, on to the real thing………… Read the rest of this entry »

Breaking News: Vick to be Activated From Exempt List; Eagles to cut Baskett; Kolb on the Block?
15 09 2009by John Ryan
In a week that has been filled with HUGE Eagles stories, the news keeps flowing into the news desks. ESPN.com is reporting that the Eagles will activate Michael Vick from the exempt list, enabling him to practice along with Jeff Garcia this week. (He is still suspended one more week from actual games) Hank Baskett will be the casualty. This goes against what Eagles officials had been saying earlier today when asked if anotehr roster move was forthcoming. The question was asked after Shawn Andrews was placed on the IR earlier today. In other news, there are whispers around the league that the Eagles would welcome a trade of Kevin Kolb in the right deal, however they are not confident that deal is out there, therefore they feel compelled to play him Sunday to see what he actually can offer this team. Whatever Dave Spadaro seems to think or write, the Eagles can not honestly feel comfortable with Kolb in there Sunday seeing as how he has played in his brief career. Granted, he has only thrown 45 pass attempts (to Garcia’s 160+ TD’s, by the way) and he is coming off a nice pre-season finale, but it was against a bunch of guys bagging groceries right now. Sorry, Kolb fans. The Eagles would dump this guy in a Philadelphia minute if they could find any kind of value for a former 2nd round pick. One more quick Vick tidbit: he is expected to practice Wednesday.

Eagles: Quick Hits
19 08 2009by Michael DeLuca
Shawn Andrews flew to Los Angeles to have his back examined by renowned surgeon Dr. Robert Watkins. Watkins found no structural damage, saying the injury was just muscle related. Eagles head coach Andy Reid said there is no indication yet when Andrews will return to the team. “We really have to go off symptoms and what he’s feeling,” Reid said. Sounds to me like he’s “feeling” allergic to training camp and those symptoms will cease once it ends. Shouldn’t surprise anyone, he’s bitched and moaned about training camps since arriving in Philly. Adam Caplan says via twitter (I refuse to write twits…or tweets….or twats), “Good news on S. Andrews injury. Looks like he’ll do some limited work soon. Still, 50-50 to be ready for week one.”
Brent Celek is back from his shoulder sprain and is expected to participate in Thursday’s preseason game. Great new for the Birds but they should be keeping their eyes open for backup/replacement TE’s that shake loose as other team’s make their pre-season cuts.
Why do the names Tony Ugoh and Zach Miller always pop into my head when Kevin Kolb’s name is mentioned? Oh yeah, because they’re the two names (that stuck out to me) that were still on the board when the Eagles shocked the football world by drafting Donovan McNabb’s “heir apparent”. The best we could get in exchange for Kolb now, maybe Tony Scheffler and a 4th rounder…which would probably be a good deal for both sides.

Baskett Hurt; Kolb Update
11 08 2009by John Ryan
In what seems like a daily occurrence, another Eagle has gone down due to injury. The latest victim to be bit by the injury bug is WR Hank Baskett. Despite his newfound fame due to his marriage of a former playmate model, Baskett couldn’t avoid what seems like an all out plague. Here is some other injury news:
- Kevin Kolb was walking around today with a light cast and his injury is being described as day-to-day. He should be back by late this week/early next week.
- Shawn Andrews is still a mystery, however Jason Peters and his brother Stacy both feel confident he will be back soon. Could it be a case of a guy not wanting to participate in training camp? Sounds like if he ever does play again for the Eagles that this is the case….
- DeSean Jackson sat out yesterday, but no one is worried.
Victor Abiamiri continues to sit out, and this has to be a concern, especially since Jacqua Parker just joined the Doobie Brothers for their national tour. Good to see he’s “Taking it To The Streets” so to speak.

Kolb Trade Speculation
17 06 2009by Michael DeLuca
Chris Wesseling of Rotoworld.com has speculated on the possibility that, with a new pay raise in tow for Eagles QB Donovan McNabb, the team may be willing to entertain offers for backup QB Kevin Kolb. Both
McNabb’s and Kolb’s contracts are set to expire following the 2010 season. Wesseling suggests that a second rounder might get the job done and that the St. Louis Rams would be a good fit, pointing out that Rams Offensive Coordinator Pat Shurmur was Kolb’s QB coach in Philly and that incumbent starter Marc Bulger’s time is running short.
PCPTAKE: Again, this is purely speculation and highly unlikely. While the Rams might be a good fit, the Eagles would be unlikely to deal Kolb. A second round selection is intriguing though, since the Rams could very well be the worst team in the league this year and that pick could be #33 overall!

Donovan McNabb – Extension Now Likely
5 06 2009

It had appeared that the Philadelphia Eagles were simply going to restructure Donovan McNabb’s current contract, giving the superstar QB a bump in pay and appeasing him while they try to figure out what in the hell to do with Kevin Kolb. It now appears that the team is set to extend McNabb’s deal, by two years…and with $19 million in guaranteed money! According to Geoff Mosher at courrierpostonline.com, “Under his current deal, McNabb can opt out of his contract after the 2010 season. That same year his backup, Kevin Kolb, is also bound for free agency.
A reworked deal would grant McNabb two more years to lead the Eagles to their first Super Bowl title and demonstrate that he’s still among the league’s elite, even past 30.
It would also give the team two years to decide whether the torch should be passed on to Kolb, the team’s 2007 second-round pick.
Mosher goes on to say, “The team’s opinion of McNabb is more optimistic since its awkward benching of the franchise leader at halftime of its 36-7 loss on Nov. 23 in Baltimore. A resurgent McNabb rallied the Eagles into the postseason and to the NFC Championship for the fifth time in 10 years.”

Kevin Kolb – Wouldacouldashoulda
17 03 2009Despite what the Eagles may say regarding the benching of quarterback Donovan McNabb, in the game against the
Baltimore Ravens, at least one Eagle feels that if Kevin Kolb could have performed better, he would have kept the job…and that Eagle is Kevin Kolb. In an article by by Bob Brookover of the Philadadlphia Inquirer, Kolb explains that he understands any skepticism fans may have based on his limited playing time but goes on to say, “”I know at some point in my career I’ll get a solid chance. Hopefully, it’s with the Eagles. But I know at some point it will happen, and I look forward to meeting the challenge.”

These Birds Look A lot Like the 2006 Edition
9 12 2008
Garcia won over the fans in 2006...
By Mike Gill
It was November 28th 2006, Eagles fans throughout the Delaware Valley all thought the Eagles season was over. The Birds had just been embarrassed 48-21 by the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday Night Football to fall to 5-6 on the season.
This was a week after the Eagles were blown away 31-13 at home by a mediocre Tennessee Titans team. In that game, the Eagles would lose quarterback Donovan McNabb and many Eagles fans thought the season was over at that moment.
Eagles fans yearned for AJ Feely over the coaches choice, Jeff Garcia. Feely had won four games during the 2003 season and many fans thought he could at least give the team a shot to compete. But it was Garcia who lead the Eagles and his first opportunity was a miserable performance against the Colts.
Garcia was public enemy number one. Eagle fans cheered when he went down on a Monday Night game agaisnt the Carolina Panthers. But Garcia would get up off the turf and lead the Eagles back for a 27-24 win to imrove to 6-6 on the season. In that game, Garcia would complete 21-of-39 passes for 312 yards and 3 touchdowns to win over the city. Read the rest of this entry »
