Donovan McNabb Goes Unclaimed On Waivers

3 12 2011

Talk about a fall from grace.  Yesterday, former Philadelphia Eagles superstar quarterback, Donovan McNabb, went unclaimed by 31 NFL Donovan McNabb Celebrating in Philadelphia Eagles Jersey teams after requesting his release from the Minnesota Vikings.  Among the teams that chose to “stick with what they got”, are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.  Both teams are in the playoff hunt and starting backups due to injury.  In Houston, both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart are out for the season and the Texans will now rely on TJ Yates, a rookie 5th round draft pick out of North Carolina.  In Chicago, Caleb Hanie is the new signal caller as Jay Cutler roams the sidelines with an injured thumb.  Hanie was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of out Colorado State in 2008.  Further worsening the blow for McNabb is that Chicago is his home town.  If these two teams didn’t want to give McNabb a shot, at this crucial juncture, than this may be the end of the line for the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

Eagles Draft Talk

With the NFL draft just 17 days away, draft talk is heating up and with the Jay Culter trade, coupled with the Giants releasing Plexico Burress rumors are flying about what will happen at the top of the draft.

Earlier today, I had my weekly chat with draftcountdown.com president Scott Wright to talk more about what the Eagles might do, what the Broncos might do now after the trade of Cutler and what the Giants might do now that Burress is not going to be in Gotham this season.

Here are some of the questions I have for you draft fans out there. Read the rest of this entry »

Week 3 – Things I think I now know…

24 09 2008
Its easy to see Cutler is the man in Denver.

Its easy to see Cutler is the man in Denver.

By Mike Gill

Its another edition of things I now know and this week the picture gets a little more clear.  The haves and the have-nots are starting to separate themselves as we approach the quarter-pole.  Lets take a look at what I now know.

1. The Steelers are in trouble – Pittsburgh is beat up and the schedule isn’t getting any easier.  They will miss Willie Parker this week and I think I now know that the Steelers week one victory was a bit of a fraud.  Keep in mind, they struggled at the end of last season and I think they will again  with a touh schedule of games coming up.

2. St. Louis is fighting KC for the worst team in the state and the league – The Rams decided to make a QB switch, while the Chiefs have already used three QB’s.  Marc Bulger isnt the problem in St. Louis, the defense and O-Line are.  But you can’t replace 16 people, so they changed one.  KC is just a mess and I now know these are the worst two teams in the league – sorry Detroit your number three on that list. NFL Power Rankings

23 09 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Yet another exciting week of NFL football has come and gone.  Some major upsets, close calls, and key injuries have really shaken up our rankings.  Let’s have a look at the rankings as they stand heading into week four of NFL action…

1.  Dallas Cowboys (3-0) – Their dominating performance in Cleveland in week 1 was followed up by a week 2 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.  In week three they traveled to Green Bay, where they had never won a game, and took it to the Packers for an impressive victory.  Rookie Felix Jones has proven to be a dynamic playmaker.  Marion “The Barbarian” is an absolute beast.

2.  New York Giants (3-0) - Defending Super Bowl Champions haven’t seemed to miss a beat on defense despite the losses of Michael Strahan to retirement and Osi Umenyiora to a season ending injury.  They coasted to wins in their first two games, but were just barely able to get past the lowly Cincinnati Bengals in week 3, winning by a field goal in overtime.

3.  Denver Broncos (3-0) – The offense is explosive, while the defense is atrocious.  Brandon Marshall may have taken over as the premier wide receiver in the NFL.  Jay Cutler continues to show poise in the pocket, a rocket arm, and deadly accuracy.

4.  Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) - Despite injuries to Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook, the Eagles held on for a hard fought victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers.  Jim Johnson’s defense did what they do best, blitz.  In week 2, Philadelphia hung through 4 quarters of football with the best team in the NFL…in their own building.  May be a different story when  these teams meet in Philly. 2008 All Sleeper Team

4 08 2008

Fantasy Championships are won with value picks in the middle to late rounds and the big question is always…who will be those late round gems?  Here’s a complete starting fantasy lineup.   I’ve taken into account that many leagues use a flex position.  All players are compared using their average draft positions.

Jay Cutler- QB, Denver Broncos – 20 touchdown passes and nearly 3,500 yards last year and still it seemed Cutler underachieved in his first full season as the Broncos starter.  He has a whole new slew of receivers including Keary Colbert, Eddie Royal, and Darrell Jackson.  Add them to the mix with Brandon Marshall and Brandon Stokley and you’ve a got a star studded receiving corps.  Ryan Clady of Boise State was drafted #12 overall in round 1 by the Broncos and has already earned the confidence of the coaches along with the starting left tackle job.  With a little more time in the pocket, Jay should be able to utilize his down-field passing strength and should easily break into the top 10 quarterback rankings this season.  He’s currently being drafted #81 overall and is the #11 Quarterback off the boards according to Antsports average draft positions.  Look for him to outperform both Marc Bulger and Matt Hasselbeck, who are both being taken ahead of him.

Thomas Jones- RB, New York Jets – Jones is undoubtedly the feature back for the New York Jets.  His 310 carries accounted for 3/4 of all rushing attempts for the team last year.  The departure of Pete Kendall left a gaping hole on the left side and the run game suffered all season long, while Jones accounted for just two touchdowns, one on the ground and one through the air.  After adding left guard Alan Faneca and picking up veteran FB Tony Richardson, all signs point to Jones bouncing back and having a very productive 2008 campaign.  Jones is being drafted #43 overall and #22 among running backs.  Michael Turner, Ronnie Brown, Earnest Graham, and Willie Parker are all being selected ahead of Jones, who could easily outperform them all.

Chris Johnson- RB, Tennessee Titans - Johnson has been one of the biggest stars of training camp and his role is already being defined much differently than originally anticipated.  “I am just looking at him as a tailback,” offensive coordinator Mike Heimerdinger said. “What we do outside of turning and handing him the ball is a bonus. He can do a lot of things, but I want to find out if we can turn and hand him the ball and how many times we can do that. I look at it different than all the ‘experts.’ I expect to see him out there on first and second down.”  Johnson is a speed demon and is a threat to take it to the house each time he touches the football.  Johnson is being selected #122 overall and 45th among running backs.  If you’re really considering taking the OTHER Adrian Peterson ahead of him, you should have your head examined!
