Donovan McNabb Goes Unclaimed On Waivers

3 12 2011

Talk about a fall from grace.  Yesterday, former Philadelphia Eagles superstar quarterback, Donovan McNabb, went unclaimed by 31 NFL Donovan McNabb Celebrating in Philadelphia Eagles Jersey teams after requesting his release from the Minnesota Vikings.  Among the teams that chose to “stick with what they got”, are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans.  Both teams are in the playoff hunt and starting backups due to injury.  In Houston, both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart are out for the season and the Texans will now rely on TJ Yates, a rookie 5th round draft pick out of North Carolina.  In Chicago, Caleb Hanie is the new signal caller as Jay Cutler roams the sidelines with an injured thumb.  Hanie was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of out Colorado State in 2008.  Further worsening the blow for McNabb is that Chicago is his home town.  If these two teams didn’t want to give McNabb a shot, at this crucial juncture, than this may be the end of the line for the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

—————————————————————————-

1:00

Houston Texans +4.5 NEW ORLEANS SAINTS
If the Texans want to prove they are for real this is the type of game that could show they’ve made it over the hump.

PHILADELPHIA EAGLES -8.5 New York Giants
No Manningham, banged up D, Philly coming off a road loss… look for a rout!

Miami Dolphins +3 CLEVELAND BROWNS
The both suck but Cleveland sucks harder. Dolphins seem like a solid play, worst case scenario is a push.

TENNESSEE TITANS -7 Denver Broncos
Denver hasn’t been able to defend the run in years and without Champ Bailey, they can’t defend the pass either. Look for Titans to win… BIG!

Jacksonville Jaguars +3.5 CAROLINA PANTHERS
Cam Newton’s performances have seemed to overshadow the fact that the Panthers have yet to win a game. Will that win come today? Maybe. By more than a field goal… probably not.

—————————————————————————-

4:05

SAN DIEGO CHARGERS -15 Kansas City Chiefs
The Chiefs lost to Buffalo by 34 and Detroit by 45. San Diego is home and better than both of those teams. Without Eric Berry and Jamaal Charles, Vegas is going to have to start using college lines for the Chiefs. Yeah, they are that bad.

SEATTLE SEAHAWKS +3.5 Arizona Cardinals
First off, why doesn’t my spell check accept the word Seahawks? Secondly, why are the getting points at home against a team that struggled to beat the Panthers and then lost to the Redskins?

OAKLAND RAIDERS +3.5 New York Jets
Darren McFadden is the real deal. No Mangold is a BIG problem for the J E T S … Jets, Jets, Jets!

Breaking News: Eagles Attempting To Acquire Starting Tight End

19 08 2009

Sal Paolantonio reported today on ESPN 950 with Mike Missanelli that he knows for a fact that the Philadelphia Eagles are talking to numerous teams in an attempt to acquire a starting caliber tight end. Paolontiono specifically mentions Denver’s Tony Scheffler and Houston’s Owen Daniels as potional targets. Sal Pal suggests that the Eagles must be shopping Sheldon Brown in these talks. Earlier in the day, I had suggested trading Kevin Kolb for Scheffler and a 4th rounder. More to come, we’ll keep you posted.

Fantasy Football: The First Round!

5 07 2009

by Michael DeLuca

With less than two months until the start of the 2009 NFL season, it’s about that time to start looking forward to your fantasy football drafts. The magazine stands are packed with fantasy football mags and I’ve assembled a composite first round for a 12 team league from some of the more reputable sources. These results in no way reflect may personal opinions of where to draft players, I’ll provide my thoughts for each selection.

1. Adrian Peterson – RB, Minnesota Vikings – Peterson is pretty much the consensus #1 and rightfully so. Capable of putting up a 2000 yard season and 20 td’s. If your drafting #1, don’t overthink it, AP’s your man.

2. Maurice Jones Drew – RB, Jacksonville Jaguars – Fantasy owners are salivating over55738965 the chance to own Jones Drew now that Fred Taylor is no longer in town. After the team handed Jones Drew a 5 year $31 million deal, coach Jack Del Rio said, “We want Maurice on the field more often. We believe he’s a feature guy and it’s his time. We’re excited about that. I’m very confident this is the type of young man that will go out and continue to display the things that have made him so popular to begin with. He’s gonna get plenty of work. We’re excited about getting him the ball more often.” It sure sounds like a recipe for success.

3. Michael Turner – RB, Atlanta Falcons – Michael “The Burner” Turner was quite simply a beast last year. 1699 rushing yards and 17 touchdowns are the type of stats that fantasy championships are made of. There’s talk in Atlanta that they’d like to lighten his load and get Jerious Norwood more involved in the offense but we’ve been hearing that for years. Don’t believe the hype, Turner will get his share of carries and td’s and will warrant a high selection on draft day. The offseason acquisition of TE Tony Gonzalez will only increase Turner’s value as teams will be less inclined to stack the box. Read the rest of this entry »

NFL Week 7 – The Duke’s Picks

17 10 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Forget Brandon Lang.  Who needs Bob Valentino.  And those quote unquote experts over at Sportsline…laughable.  The Duke’s picks is an amazing 23-16 against the spread thus far this NFL season with six winning weeks out of seven.  Last week, I gave you the Cardinals over Dallas, told you Green Bay would roll over the Seahawks, and of course the Jets were going to cover against the Bengals.  So, forgot calling that 1-900 number.  Put your credit card away.  The Duke’s here and he’s got the best picks on the planet…or at least the cheapest.  Home teams are in caps, Duke’s Picks are in bold.

San Diego Chargers -2 BUFFALO BILLS - You may not know who Jyles Tucker is, but that doesn’t make him any less important.  You see, Tucker is the guy who replaced Shawne Merriman, and he’s good.  He is, however, most likely going to miss his third consecutive week and the defense will continue to suffer as a result.  Chris Chambers and Craig Davis are both out on the offensive side of the ball, while Antonio Gates and LaDainian Tomlinson remain hobbled.  The Bills are home and should be angry after their defeat to the Arizona Cardinals in week 5.  Trent Edwards appears ready to return.  Read the rest of this entry »

Week 6 Lessons

13 10 2008

by Tom Peters

While I admitted that this week would see a bunch of close games, there were a number of things we can learn from this weeks action.

1. The AFC East is overrated.

The Patriots looked non-competitive against the Chargers, the Bills had off but let Arizona do bad things to them last week, the Dolphins can no longer win on their gimmick offense and the Jets let an inept Cincinnati team stay in the game until late in the 4th quarter. NFL Power Rankings – Week 6

7 10 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Miami upsets, Philadelphia disappoints, Detroit blows, and the intrigue grows.  Gotta love this game, here are your NFL Power Rankings heading into week 6.

1.  New York Giants (4-0) - No Burress, no problem.  The Giants rolled to a 44-6 victory over the Seattle Seahawks and solidified their stronghold on the #1 spot in the power rankings.  They haven’t seemed to miss a beat on defense despite the losses of Michael Strahan to retirement and Osi Umenyiora to a season ending injury.

2.  Tennessee Titans (5-0) – Best defense in the league thus far continued to roll against the Baltimore Ravens, limiting them to just 285 total yards on offense and 2 turnovers.  Albert Haynesworth is a beast and Cortland Finnegan is gaining prominence as one of the league’s top cover corners.  Chris Johnson is a lightning bolt.  Kerry “Cocktail” Collins makes this offense more stable, allowing the defense to do what it do.

3.  Dallas Cowboys (4-1) – They beat the Bengals, but it wasn’t as easy as some would like.  Overall, they look to be losing a bit more mojo from week to week.  Their dominating performance in Cleveland in week 1 was followed up by a week 2 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles.  In week three they traveled to Green Bay, where they had never won a game, and took it to the Packers for an impressive victory.  Rookie Felix Jones has established himself a dynamic playmaker, but inexplicably didn’t receive a single touch in the week 4 loss to the Washington Redskins.  Against the Bengals, Jones was once again involved and his 9 carries for 96 yards and a touchdown proved to be the difference.
