Just when I thought YOU weren’t getting a Tuesday Ramblings, the Eagles went and made another odd move in what seems like an endless supply since last free agency started. We’ve been through them all so I won’t re-hash, but really, did you ever think Jeremiah Trotter would be back on this team in any other capacity besides, “team ambassador.” I knew you didn’t. Anyways, on to the real thing………… Read the rest of this entry »

Getting the Ax
16 05 2009by Pete Thompson
Just a quick post that I was laid off by NBC 40 on Friday after 4 years and 9 months of loyal service. I never saw it coming. The rest of the salaried employees company wide had to take a 5 percent pay cut, but I got chopped completely. I’m a little shell-shocked right now, but have been “on the beach” before and will dust myself off and rise again.

Jay Mariotti is Slightly Insane
4 09 2008by Ethan Greenberg
It’s hard to understand what former Chicago Sun Times sports columnist was thinking when he decided to leave his job after he covered the Olympics, saying that all the internet media in Beijing lead him to believe that print media is near extinction. It’s easy to prove that, since less and less people are subscribing to print newspapers, and you can include sports magazines with that because many magazines are equipped with functioning websites as well. People under the age of 40 aren’t renewing their newspaper subscription; they’re turning on their computers and firing up the old reuters.com or cnn.com or what have you.

An Invitation I Won’t Extend
28 08 2008by John Ryan
With yesterday’
s news of Jay Mariotti’s (of ESPN’s Around the Horn fame) departure from The Chicago Sun-Times, news quickly spread about his future plans. Firstly, he will still be a regular contributor to “Around the Horn,” (doesn’t it seem like the artist formerly known as STAT Boy on PTI always lets him win anyway?) and secondly, he will now enter the world of internet news because he considers the world of print media to be dinosaur-like. Funny, didn’t he practice a dinosaur-like culture for the past 17 years that catapulted his uselessness onto ESPN for regular contributions? For a man who has burned more bridges in Chicago than any arsonist could ever attempt to do in one lifetime, he sure is being less than humble on his way out. Read the rest of this entry »

A DIVORCE THAT HURTS ALL SPORTS FANS
by John Leon
“Annnnnnnnnnddddddddd Good Afternoon everybody!!! How are you doing today? The Mike and the Mad Dog radio program is on the air.”
On Friday morning that’s how the Mike and the Mad Dog radio program on WFAN New York opened for the last time.
Just two weeks short of their 19th anniversary, one of the longest, if not THE longest running sports talk shows came to an end. Mike Francesa and Chris “Mad Dog” Russo decided to end their Mike and the Mad Dog radio program on WFAN in New York. Russo made the decision that it was time for the two to part ways and we as sports fans will be the poorer for it.
