Madden NFL 09 Predictions: NFC

“The most accurate football simulation ever.”  This is what the new NFL Madden 09 video game boasts.  I figured, if this is the case, why not preview the entire NFL season simply through Madden.  The skeptic may think, “well Kevin, Brett Favre is on the Packers, not the Jets in Madden 09 amongst other roster flaws, how is this accurate?”  Well let me tell you, at the time simulation, the rosters were downloaded straight from EA Sports most recent update.  They are as accurate as possible.

As seen above, this is the first part in a 3 part series of entries.  Today I will preview the NFC.  One of the great things about Madden is that it calculates MVPs, Pro-Bowlers, etc.  These too will all be listed in this and the upcoming articles.

Before we start, let me just reassure the reader I did absolutely nothing to interfere with the outcomes of games, trades, etc.  I simply pressed the “sim entire season” button.  Here’s how the NFC stacked up…

Atrocious Attire

Last time we took a gander at the best dressed teams in sports.  Today, we are taking the opposite route.  These are the uniforms that must have been designed by Todd Pinkston when he had the sun in his eyes.  I don’t know what these teams could have possibly been thinking when they thought up some of these threads.  I really want to meet the men and women who OK’ed these uniforms at the team meetings and actually thought they were good ideas.

Sure teams want to get as many unique uniforms out there as possible.  Why? – so fans like you and me will go out and purchase these authentic, or replica jerseys to show our support for our favorite team.  In reality, its all about turning a profit.  If a  franchise can throw out a new uniform every three years, whether it be sharp or hideous, they will give it the okay, in hopes of fans buying more and more merchandise, thickening the teams’ executives’ already padded pockets.  Let’s begin.

Let me warn you.  The images you are about to see are not for the faint of heart.  If graphic images scare you, then look away and stop reading this entry.  Some of these uniforms are so awful, I can not actually rank which are worse than the others.  So instead of a top ten, I have just singled out the most awful, leaving the others unranked.  Here we go…

Seattle Seahawks – Running Back Competition

9 08 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Last week I listed Julius Jones as a potential fantasy football bust, saying that Maurice Morris may eat into his carries.  Turns out, it may be the other way around.  In preseason week 1, Morris got the start and accumulated 62 yards on just six attempts, including a 21-yard jaunt.   Jones managed only 15 yards on four attempts.  The buzz out of camp has all surrounded Morris, who seems to be the favorite of head coach Mike Holmgrem.  The situation is certainly worth keeping an eye on.

Is Seattle the Best in the West?

When Mora takes over next season will he be leading the defending Super Bowl champs?

When Mora takes over next season will he be leading the defending Super Bowl champs?

The Seattle Seahawks better watch out or they just might be the NFL’s version of the Atlanta Braves.  The team is the four-time defending champions of the NFC West and has been to the playoffs five consecutive years, but that hasn’t translated into a lot of playoff success.

They are now three seasons removed from their Super Bowl appearance but according to Curtis Crabtree, who covers the team for sports radio 950 KJR in Seattle there is no reason they cant go back this season.  “This is absolutely a playoff team,” said Crabtree.  ” I think they will win the NFC West pretty handily and if they can get healthy and remain healthy, they can win the NFC title this season.” Read the rest of this entry »
