Talk about a fall from grace. Yesterday, former Philadelphia Eagles superstar quarterback, Donovan McNabb, went unclaimed by 31 NFL 
teams after requesting his release from the Minnesota Vikings. Among the teams that chose to “stick with what they got”, are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans. Both teams are in the playoff hunt and starting backups due to injury. In Houston, both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart are out for the season and the Texans will now rely on TJ Yates, a rookie 5th round draft pick out of North Carolina. In Chicago, Caleb Hanie is the new signal caller as Jay Cutler roams the sidelines with an injured thumb. Hanie was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of out Colorado State in 2008. Further worsening the blow for McNabb is that Chicago is his home town. If these two teams didn’t want to give McNabb a shot, at this crucial juncture, than this may be the end of the line for the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

Michael Vick: “There is a 100 percent chance I’m playing.”

Michael Vick told the Eagles’ team website he will play Sunday against the 49ers no matter the status of his bruised right hand.
“I will be out there on Sunday, regardless,” Vick said, according to the team’s Twitter page. “There is a 100 percent chance I’m playing.”
Coach Andy Reid said earlier during his daily press conference that Vick will practice for the Eagles on Wednesday. The quarterback took part in the Eagles’ walk-through on Wednesday morning.
Reid said the swelling in Vick’s bruised right hand has lessened, but he wasn’t sure if Vick would take all first-team snaps on Wednesday.

Reid also said quarterback Vince Young is “100 percent”, but would not say if Young or Mike Kafka would be next in line behind Vick on the depth chart.
Reid said Monday that Vick’s availability would hinge on how quickly the swelling in his hand went down.

Chaney Compares Philadelphia Eagles To Miami Heat

“We’re getting tested right now, and as long as we stay strong we’re going to be alright,” said Chaney. “The season ain’t over yet. We’re 1-2 right now. The Miami Heat started out the season 8-8 and everybody was jumping on them like it was the 
end of the world, and they ended up making it all the way to the Finals. It’s not the end of the world.”
The basic premise is correct. The Eagles have rebounded from slow starts before under Andy Reid, and a quick glance around the NFC East — highlighted by Monday night’s slopped-up showcase between the Redskins and Cowboys — reveals the division is most certainly winnable for a team this talented.

Reid Wants To Talk Football, Not Concussions

There really wasn’t much for Andy Reid to say after Sunday’s confounding loss to the New York Giants, or at least there wasn’t very much he felt like saying. Either way, Reid’s day on the sideline will have to speak for itself, because there wasn’t a lot of explanation afterward.
The answers to the final seven questions of his postgame news conference were:
“I thought it was the right thing to do.”
“I can’t remember that to be honest with you.”
“I went with Kafka.”
“Yep.”
“Cramps.”
“Uh . . . their penetration.”
“We’ll see.”
For fun, try to match the answers with the questions below:
“What happens if you go swimming too soon after lunch?”
“What is it that makes nails stick into wood?”
“Who did you choose as the greatest author of the 20th century?”
“Why did you help that old lady across the street?”

It’s no brainteaser: Giants punter angles to silence Eagles’ DJax
25 09 2011This year’s Giants punter doesn’t plan to commit the same sin last year’s did.
We’re all familiar with Matt Dodge‘s ill-fated punt against the Eagles last December, which DeSean Jackson returned 65 yards for the game-winning score as time ran out, effectively ending New York’s season.
This time around, Steve Weatherford is in, Dodge is out. For the new guy, punting away from Jackson in Sunday’s meeting rests atop the priority list.
“We’re going to do our best to put the ball on the sidelines or out of bounds and limit the room that he has to work with,” Weatherford told the New York Daily News. “Ideally, I’d like to have the ball out of bounds — obviously that’s what (Tom) Coughlin’s looking for.”
Weatherford also wants to make it clear that a punter’s job — especially angling punts away from predatory return-men — is more strenuous than you’d think.
“It’s not like a Madden video game, where you point the arrow and push ‘X,’” Weatherford said. “There’s some skill involved in it.”
Of course, of course.
Weatherford’s job on Sunday is crystal clear — keep the punting game out of the headlines and Jackson out of the end zone. Anything less, and — well — just ask Matt Dodge.

Eagles Super Bowl Drive Begins With Rout Of Rams

ST. LOUIS – The lockout didn’t bother Michael Vick. It simply left him with fresh legs for the season opener.
The Eagles quarterback was in dazzling form and the other Philly game-breakers were hard to catch, too, as the team opened its self-proclaimed Super Bowl drive with a 31-13 victory over the St. Louis Rams on Sunday.

Can’t run from Philadelphia Eagles defense deficiencies

For as long as most of us can remember, the Eagles’ defense has been about speed, not size. The organization has read the league-wide trends and always preferred the faster guy over the bigger guy. If that meant people ran on them, so be it.
It was that way when Jim Johnson was the defensive coordinator, and when Sean McDermott was the defensive coordinator, and it is that way now with Juan Castillo as the defensive coordinator, only more so.
But have they reached the tipping point?
To be weak at the point of attack is one thing and to be totally deficient is something completely different. The Eagles are teetering right on that knife edge this summer. To live with a defense that gives up a lot of running yards is one thing and to be run over by a truck every week is another matter entirely.
Last night, it was the truck.
It makes you wonder.
A runaway semi, painted black with gold trim, splattered the Eagles’ defense all over the turf at Heinz Field last night: 14 carries and 71 yards for the Steelers’ first-team offense in the game’s first two drives. In a game that the Eagles were losing by 21-0 at halftime and 24-14 at the end – a game of unlimited lousiness for the Dream Team – this physical domination stood out most of all. Eagles Receiver Jeremy Maclin Had Cancer Scare

The Philadelphia Eagles have gotten major national attention for all their recent player additions. But a noticeable subtraction from the team’s workouts has had people searching for answers — until now.
Eagles starting wide receiver Jeremy Maclin, who had missed camp because of what the media had been calling a “mysterious illness,” revealed to FOXSports.com on Wednesday that he has been struggling with a cancer scare.
Maclin told FOXSports.com in an exclusive interview that a false test led doctors to believe he had contracted a form of cancer known as lymphoma.
But after further testing, Maclin was given a clean bill of health and is ready to return to the field.
“That’s first and foremost, I want everyone to know I’m fine, I’m healthy,” Maclin told FOXSports.com on Wednesday, only an hour after receiving word from his doctor that his final test came back negative. “I was tested for everything, and every single test came back negative. I don’t have mono, I don’t have AIDS, leukemia — all the things people were guessing on, there was nothing. I was being tested for lymphoma and thank God everything has come back negative. Brother Says Maclin Is Fine

Jeremy Maclin’s “mysterious illness” will be more clearly defined Tuesday, according to an older brother of the Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver.
“When I say definitely, we definitely will have some news tomorrow,” Andre Maclin told Sporting News.

Maclin, a third-year player who broke out in 2010 with nearly 1,000 yards receiving and 10 touchdowns, has yet to practice with the Eagles this summer and last week left for his hometown, St. Louis, to be further evaluated by doctors due to an undisclosed illness.
Considering his offseason bout with mononucleosis, during which Maclin reportedly lost at least 15 pounds, this current illness has raised significant concern among Eagles fans. There has been speculation online and
on sports-talk radio in Philadelphia that Maclin’s career — and his long-term health — may be in jeopardy.
No so, said Andre Maclin: “They kind of have us on a gag order until tomorrow. … But he’s fine, he’s fine. That much I can say.”
Asked if he expects Maclin to play for the Eagles this season, the brother said, “I’m confident about that as well.”
Attempts to reach the Eagles early Monday were unsuccessful. Representatives for Maclin declined comment.
