Pacman Jones Suspended

Nothing seems to be going right for the Dallas Cowboys. Tony Romo, Felix Jones, Sam Hurd, and Terrence Newman will all miss significant time due to injury. Now, Adam “Pacman” Jones has been suspended indefinitely, without pay, by commissioner Roger Goodell for violating the terms of his reinstatement. The following is from NFL.COM:
“Jones will miss at least the next four games. Goodell will determine the final length of the suspension following the Cowboys’ Week 11 game against Washington on Nov. 16. The decision on whether Jones can return to play will be based on his strict compliance with his NFL and Dallas Cowboys treatment plans as well as on evaluations of his progress that will be provided to Goodell by clinical experts retained by the NFL.
Jones was involved in an alcohol-related physical altercation at a Dallas hotel on Oct. 8 that resulted in hotel employees calling the police. Goodell in today’s letter to Jones called it a continuation of “a disturbing pattern of behavior and clearly inconsistent with the conditions I set for your continued participation in the NFL.”

NFL Power Rankings

Yet another exciting week of NFL football has come and gone. Some major upsets, close calls, and key injuries have really shaken up our rankings. Let’s have a look at the rankings as they stand heading into week four of NFL action…
1. Dallas Cowboys (3-0) – Their dominating performance in Cleveland in week 1 was followed up by a week 2 shootout victory over the Philadelphia Eagles. In week three they traveled to Green Bay, where they had never won a game, and took it to the Packers for an impressive victory. Rookie Felix Jones has proven to be a dynamic playmaker. Marion “The Barbarian” is an absolute beast.
2. New York Giants (3-0) - Defending Super Bowl Champions haven’t seemed to miss a beat on defense despite the losses of Michael Strahan to retirement and Osi Umenyiora to a season ending injury. They coasted to wins in their first two games, but were just barely able to get past the lowly Cincinnati Bengals in week 3, winning by a field goal in overtime.
3. Denver Broncos (3-0) – The offense is explosive, while the defense is atrocious. Brandon Marshall may have taken over as the premier wide receiver in the NFL. Jay Cutler continues to show poise in the pocket, a rocket arm, and deadly accuracy.
4. Philadelphia Eagles (2-1) - Despite injuries to Donovan McNabb and Brian Westbrook, the Eagles held on for a hard fought victory against the Pittsburgh Steelers. Jim Johnson’s defense did what they do best, blitz. In week 2, Philadelphia hung through 4 quarters of football with the best team in the NFL…in their own building. Enough With the T.O. vs. McNabb Angle Already!

Ever since Terrell Owens left the Eagles and became a member of the hated Cowboys, the sexy story when the Birds played the Boys was T.O. vs. McNabb. The recluse vs. the company man, good vs. evil, the brash vs. the humble, etc. Spin it anyway you want, and word it however, but the bottom line is it was a great story…..while it lasted.

Madden NFL 09 Predictions: NFC

“The most accurate football simulation ever.” This is what the new NFL Madden 09 video game boasts. I figured, if this is the case, why not preview the entire NFL season simply through Madden. The skeptic may think, “well Kevin, Brett Favre is on the Packers, not the Jets in Madden 09 amongst other roster flaws, how is this accurate?” Well let me tell you, at the time simulation, the rosters were downloaded straight from EA Sports most recent update. They are as accurate as possible.
As seen above, this is the first part in a 3 part series of entries. Today I will preview the NFC. One of the great things about Madden is that it calculates MVPs, Pro-Bowlers, etc. These too will all be listed in this and the upcoming articles.
Before we start, let me just reassure the reader I did absolutely nothing to interfere with the outcomes of games, trades, etc. I simply pressed the “sim entire season” button. Here’s how the NFC stacked up…

Top-to-bottom, the NFC East is the NFL's best.

The NFC East is arguably the most competitive division in all of football. Three of the four teams made the playoffs last season and there is a strong chance that could happen again this season. While Dallas is the favorite, the Giants are the defending Super Bowl champs, the Skins made the playoffs and the Eagles are improved. So take a look at the NFL’s best divisions best players :
QB – Donovan McNabb- You might want Tony Romo, but I need to see him win a playoff game first. You might say Eli Manning, because he won the Super Bowl last season. But I’ll take number five, he is poised for a huge season.
RB – Brian Westbook- Mr. Do-it-all for the Eagles gets the nod over a talented field, Marion Barber III and Clinton Portis could have been here, but Westbrook is much more important to hs team and more versatile running back. Read the rest of this entry »

An early view of the NFC playoffs

While the AFC might have the top teams in the NFL, the race for the six spots in the NFC playoffs could be more exciting than the Roger Federer vs. Rafael Nadal final Wimbledon match.
The NFC could play out just like the NBA’s Eastern Conference, with the Dallas Cowboys playing the role of the Boston Celtics and a bunch of other teams vying for spots two-through-six. Other than Dallas, there really isn’t a clear-cut favorite in the NFC, with the Brett Favre circus in Green Bay who knows what to predict for the Packers. The defending champion Giants didn’t really overly-impress during the 2007 regular season and it wouldn’t be a complete shock if they suffered from a “Super Bowl hangover.” In Seattle, the Seahawks should be the favorite in the NFC West, but I wouldn’t say they are the class of the Conference.
