Just a couple of days ago we discussed Andy Reid’s 610 WIP interview in which he discussed the Eagles’ interest in acquiring Arizona Cardinals wide receiver Anquin Boldin. The main point that Reid made was that the Cardinals were asking for too much (1st, 3rd, 5th round picks) for a guy you would then have to pay $10 million a season. Today, Boldin’s agent, Drew Rosenhaus, disputed that Boldin was seeking a contract in the $10 million per year range. Said Rosenhaus, “Reports that Anquan Boldin is seeking a contract worth $10 million per yr are inaccurate. We recently made a proposal to the Cards for less.”
The $10 million number that originally came out was because Boldin believed he deserved a contract similar to teammate Larry Fitzgerald who signed a blockbuster four-year, $40 million contract in March of 2008. Boldin, though an elite receiver, is no Larry Fitzgerald. In the end, Boldin’s open market value would probably be around $8.5 million per year. He may have to accept less in order to get out of his current contract.
The most interesting part of the Reid interview, in my opinion, is that Reid asserted that the Cardinals seemed to never really want to trade Boldin. Reid appeared to be under the impression that the Cardinals had a ridiculous asking price because they had no intention of trading the disgruntled wideout.
