Eagles Draft Talk

With the NFL draft just 17 days away, draft talk is heating up and with the Jay Culter trade, coupled with the Giants releasing Plexico Burress rumors are flying about what will happen at the top of the draft. 

Earlier today, I had my weekly chat with draftcountdown.com president Scott Wright to talk more about what the Eagles might do, what the Broncos might do now after the trade of Cutler and what the Giants might do now that Burress is not going to be in Gotham this season.

Former Eagles RB Correll Bongwater…err Buckhalter

According to recent court testimony, former Philadelphia Eagles RB Corell Buckhalter purchased 3 to 6 vials of a high potency marijuana called “kush” every two to three weeks that the Eagles were in town and sometimes more “when there was a special function.”  Hmm…where to start?

  1. Do wealthy people always get their pot in vials?
  2. Hasn’t anybody realized the dangers associated with becoming a Denver Broncos running back.
  • Maurice Clarett – Aggravated robbery, high speed highway police chase, small arsenal of post appocolyptic firearms, big fat prison sentence.  (BTW, can somebody please explain to me when robbery isn’t aggravating?  Is there a lesser charge of convenient and or pleasurable robbery?)
  • Travis Henry – Arrested in a DEA sting for intentionally conspiring to distribute and possess with intent to distribute cocaine.  Has also fathered 47 children with 46 different women (the worst part is I’m only slightly exxagerating).
  • Tatum Bell – Grand Theft Luggage

Anyhow, I’ll stop there because I think I made my point.  Buchalter spent “virtually” eight squeeky clean (media wise) seasons as a member of the Philadelphia Eagles and just one month after signing with the Denver Broncos these allegations begin.  Good luck with the next four years Correll.

Dawkins Distraught After Leaving Birds

“I’ve absolutely enjoyed my time there, and this was a very, very, very emotional decision for me. Very emotional. I’ve been crying,” were Brian Dawkins words on Saturday, after signing with the Denver Broncos.

Following a 13 year run with the Philadelphia Eagles, it took Dawkins less than 24 hours into the 2009 free agency period to land his new gig. The new deal is for 5 years and $17 million, but essentially boils down to a two year $9 million pact.

Instead of celebrating his new contract, new team, and fresh start, the 35 year old Dawkins has had a difficult time moving on from his beloved Eagles. In a Saturday interview with Comast Sportsnet’s Derrick Gunn, Dawkins was audibly distraught from the onset of the interview. His voice cracked, he became extremely emotional, and finally had to end the interview in less than two minutes. You can hear it here at CSNPHILLY.COM.

Thursday Night’s Game

As I was getting excited watching the election returns and finding out my guy and gal lost, I almost forgot that there was a game Thursday.

As is custom for all Thursday games, I will only pick this one and give the rest of my picks for the week later on.

Denver Broncos (4-4) v. Cleveland Browns (3-5)

This is a tough game to call because both are inconsistent and basically they suck and they underachieve. There are a buttload of questions to be asked in this game. Which Broncos team will show up, the one that started 3-0 with no turnovers or the team that has lost 4 of it’s last 5 (including 3 straight) and has developed an aversion to playing offense and keeping the ball. What will we see out of Cleveland? Is Brady Quinn the cure to Cleveland’s woes? Will the charity stop? Can Kellen Winslow get his act together?

Denver has become like a trophy wife with a myspace, they looked good, but you can’t trust them. Cleveland has hope. The offense was improving, the defense isn’t that terrible. I think Denver’s inability to run the ball and KEEP the ball will hurt them. While I don’t think Brady Quinn will impress, it won’t be an issue as Denver has difficulty stopping the run. Expect a big game from Jamal Lewis.
