TJ Houshmanzadeh has made no secret that he would like to be a part of the Philadelphia Eagles organization. Earlier today, Cincinnati left tack Stacy Andrews agreed to terms with the Birds and Houshmanzadeh would love to be the second Bengals player to depart for the City of Brotherly Love. Just this morning, Houshmanzadeh sent a message to ESPN 950 that read: “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, if they want me I will be an Eagle tomorrow.”
The only question that remains is “why wouldn’t the Eagles want him?” Age is the only factor that comes to mind. Houshmandzadeh will be 32 years of age at the start of the 09′ regular season. The wide receiver position has been in a state of flux for the Eagles since the departure of Donte Stallworth. Rookie Desean Jackson was the lone bright spot in 08′ and even his play was inconsistent. Veteran Kevin Curtis, who led the team with 1110 receiving yards in 2007, missed the first six games of the regular season with a sport hernia. When healthy, Curtis is a reliable option, but is at his best when playing out of the slot. Reggie Brown, a former 1st round selection, has only regressed since a stellar rookie campaign and has been rumored to be traded to the Rams, possibly in an exchange for Torry Holt.
Ageism aside, TJ Houshmandzadeh would seem to be a perfect fit for the Philadelphia Eagles. Let’s start off the field. Houshmanzadeh has been a model citizen for the most dysfunctional group of hoodlums the NFL has to offer. In an era where the phrases “star wide receiver” and “prima dona” go hand in hand, Housh is an anomoly.
On the field, the man only gets better with age. Barring 2003, which saw Housh sidelined for all but two contests due to injury, he has literally improved each and every year from one season to the next. In fact, at 31 years of age, Houshmandzadeh has set the stage for his crowning achievement. Despite an injury to star quarterback Carson Palmer, Housh had 92 receptions for 904 yards! All this, with former Harvard quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick delivering him the pigskin and not partaking in the final game of the season. So, final verdict, yeah I’d said Houshmandzadeh would be a fantastic fit for the Birds. Am I alone?

A league source has told profootballtalk.com’s Mike Florio that tackle Stacy Andrews, brother of Philadelphia Eagles RG Shawn Andrews, has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles. Per the source, it’s a multi-year deal averaging $7 million per season. Details of the contract are not know at this point in regards to guaranteed money. In late 2008, Stacy Andrews, then with the Cincinnati Bengals, suffered a torn ACL. Many believed Andrews would have to sign a “prove it” deal, meaning he’d have a low guarantee making him easily dispensible if he hadn’t proven to be back to full health in 2009. The Eagles most likely chose to defer any large payments until March 2010 for just that reason. The deal hinges on Andrews passing a physical. With the tandem of Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan being unrestricted free agents, it was important for the Eagles to strike quickly in the tackle market. Recent comments from Tra Thomas made it seem very unlikely he’d be returning to the Eagles. There is a higher likelihood that Runyan will be back with the team, though the Birds would then have two starting tackles who are recovering from major surgery.
