Reid To Coach 49ers?

In what has become a foregone conclusion for frustrated Eagles fans in the area, Andy Reid is on his way out. What they fail to realize, though, is that Reid may leave on his own. According to much speculation (and that’s all it is at this point), Mike Holmgren will be offered the job of GM in San Francisco and he will offer the head coach job to Andy Reid. This scenario makes sense on many levels. First of all, Mike Holmgren was an assistant under Bill Walsh in San Francisco before he left to become head coach at Green Bay. When he did leave, he took an intern from San Fran who become his quarterback coach at Green Bay. Still not sure who that guy is? Well, Andy Reid of course. Holmgren has often been quoted as saying San Fran would be a desirable landing spot from him, and the move wouldn’t be all that bad. He’s already out west in Seattle. The 49ers now need a new coach (assuming they don’t bring back Singletary) and will need a GM to clean up the mess it has become since the York’s took over for Eddie DeBartolo, Jr. The 49ers, with a few aberration years thrown in, have never succeeded under the current salary cap structure and have made foolish choice after foolish choice for what seems like an eternity.

Again, this is all speculation at this point, but Reid and Holmgren are very close friends, and it would seem to reason that if Reid ever were to relinquish duties to anyone it would be Holmgren. And, he could also have a big say on personnel. Holmgren could serve in a role similar to Bill Parcells in Miami, and Reid is still relatively young enough to handle all of the heavy lifting.
