Getting the Ax

Just a quick post that I was laid off by NBC 40 on Friday after 4 years and 9 months of loyal service. I never saw it coming. The rest of the salaried employees company wide had to take a 5 percent pay cut, but I got chopped completely. I’m a little shell-shocked right now, but have been “on the beach” before and will dust myself off and rise again.

Get ready to call out sick on Friday

With the Boston Red Sox winning in the ALDS over the Angels, that locks the Phillies schedule in for the NLCS.  And get ready to call out sick on Friday.  Thursday night is a normal FOX start time of 8:22 p.m. EST, but on Friday, they’re going to start the game at 4:35 p.m. EST.  Mike Gill is having a heart attack trying to figure out why MLB would do this to him.

It makes sense to me.  The Phillies are not the story that TV executives are hoping for.  It’s not a secret that the bosses at FOX want Manny Ramirez to match up against his old team in Boston.  Don’t forget the Nomar angle too, although he’s not really a factor.  The worst scenario that TV folks are worried about is a Tampa vs. Philly World Series. When is LIVE not really LIVE ???

Since it’s after 4 a.m. on the East Coast and I’m listening to the Olympics run yet again from Beijing, it begs the question…”when is LIVE, not really LIVE”…???

So far in these summer games, NBC has benefitted greatly from the 12-hour time difference between the East Coast and China.  The network has been able to show dramatic moments LIVE from Beijing, such as Michael Phelps and his chase for Olympic immortality.

But, when is LIVE, not really LIVE…?  Well, in this case it’s right now at 4:20 a.m. as the network shows a replay of tonight’s prime time coverage.  The bug up in the corner reads LIVE, but we know that’s not true because we watched the China women’s olympic gymnasts beat our U.S. girls around 12:15 a.m. EST.

There you go.  That’s my first post EVER to a blog.  Let’s see if anyone reads it.
