Talk about a fall from grace. Yesterday, former Philadelphia Eagles superstar quarterback, Donovan McNabb, went unclaimed by 31 NFL
teams after requesting his release from the Minnesota Vikings. Among the teams that chose to “stick with what they got”, are the Chicago Bears and Houston Texans. Both teams are in the playoff hunt and starting backups due to injury. In Houston, both Matt Schaub and Matt Leinart are out for the season and the Texans will now rely on TJ Yates, a rookie 5th round draft pick out of North Carolina. In Chicago, Caleb Hanie is the new signal caller as Jay Cutler roams the sidelines with an injured thumb. Hanie was signed by the Bears as an undrafted free agent out of out Colorado State in 2008. Further worsening the blow for McNabb is that Chicago is his home town. If these two teams didn’t want to give McNabb a shot, at this crucial juncture, than this may be the end of the line for the greatest quarterback in Philadelphia Eagles history.

Philadelphia Phillies Post Free Agent Outlook Following Ty Wigginton Acquisition
21 11 2011by Jim Salisbury of Comcast Sportsnet
The Phillies continued to change the look of their bench by acquiring versatile Ty Wigginton from the Colorado Rockies for a player to be named later or cash on Sunday.
Wigginton, 34, bats right-handed and plays infield and outfield. He joins Jim Thome as additions to the bench this off-season.
“I like three things about him,” general manager Ruben Amaro Jr. said. “I like his makeup. I like that he fits our club in that he can play first base and third base. And I like that he gives us another guy with power off the bench. We had been looking to add depth to our bench.” Read the rest of this entry »

Philadelphia Phillies Ink Jonathan Papelbon
11 11 2011By Jay King
Free agent closer Jonathan Papelbon has come to terms with the Philadelphia Phillies, according to Jim Salisbury of Comcast Sports Philadelphia. Sources tell Salisbury that Papelbon’s contract will approach $50 million for four years, pending a physical. The
soon-to-be 31-year old closer has compiled a 2.33 ERA and 219 saves during seven big league seasons, all spent with the Boston Red Sox. He had a 2.94 ERA and 31 saves during the 2011 season. The Phillies had reportedly been very close to retaining closer Ryan Madson on Monday, but ESPN cited sources who said the negotiations with Madson splintered. The team had been in contact with Papelbon since the free agency period began at 12:01 a.m. on Nov. 6, and their interest in Papelbon reportedly “never waned.” Because of Papelbon’s status as a type A free agent, the Phillies will need to surrender their top draft pick to Boston.
