In “Major League 2″ when “Lou Brown” is trying to stir up the troops he says, “We win today and that’s a win. We win tomorrow, that’s two in a row. That’s called a winning streak. It has happened before with you guys.” Well, two weeks and two ramblings for my half-dozen to dozen loyal readers. Read the rest of this entry »

BREAKING NEWS: Michael Vick a Philadelphia Eagle!

13 08 2009

In what can only be described as shocking, the Eagles (according to 610 WIP’s Howard Eskin) will sign Michael Vick to a contract after tonight’s pre-season game. More details to follow.

PCP’S Take: Is this as a Wildcat runner? A QB? Will he make the team? Interesting story, cant wait to see how it all plays out.

UPDATE:  According to Fox’s Jay Glazer, Michael Vick’s contract with the Eagles is  a one-year, $1.6 million contract with a team option for 2010 at $5.2 million.  Looks like a nice deal for both sides.  Vick’s agent, Joel Segal, has confirmed the deal to FOXSports.com and Eagles Team President Joe Banner has confirmed the signing to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

Baskett Hurt; Kolb Update

11 08 2009

by John Ryan

In what seems like a daily occurrence, another Eagle has gone down due to injury. The latest victim to be bit by the injury bug is WR Hank Baskett. Despite his newfound fame due to his marriage of a former playmate model, Baskett couldn’t avoid what seems like an all out plague. Here is some other injury news:

-         Kevin Kolb was walking around today with a light cast and his injury is being described as day-to-day. He should be back by late this week/early next week.

-         Shawn Andrews is still a mystery, however Jason Peters and his brother Stacy both feel confident he will be back soon. Could it be a case of a guy not wanting to participate in training camp? Sounds like if he ever does play again for the Eagles that this is the case….

-         DeSean Jackson sat out yesterday, but no one is worried.

Victor Abiamiri continues to sit out, and this has to be a concern, especially since Jacqua Parker just joined the Doobie Brothers for their national tour. Good to see he’s “Taking it To The Streets” so to speak.

Latest Update On Cliff Lee/Roy Halladay

28 07 2009

Philly.com is reporting that the Phillies and Jays continue to talk about a deal for Roy Halladay, even quoting J.P. Riccardi as saying (i’m paraphrasing here) that the Phils and Jays are still talking but that they (Phillies) still have not met their needs for Halladay. Meanwhile, Jayson Stark seems to think that both Riccardi and Ruben Amaro are under a tremendous amount of pressure to pull off a deal and he quoted multiple baseball men who believe it will eventually come to fruition. More updates to follow as they become available.

Jim Johnson, Eagles former D-Coordinator, Succumbs to Cancer

28 07 2009

Jim Johnson, who coordinated the Eagles defense from 1999-2009, has passed away today. Johnson, who has been battling cancer for some time now, had just recently been replaced as the defensive coordinator by Sean McDermott. Johnson leaves behind quite a legacy. Here are some of his career highlights:

- Former Defensive Coordinator of Notre Dame
- Former 2 year NFL player
- Was a husband, father, and grandfather
- Coached for the Cardinals, Bills, and Colts
- In 10 years as the Eagles defensive coordinator, Johnson’s defense allowed under 17 points in over half his games.
- In 10 years with the Eagles, 26 of his players played in Pro Bowls
- He currently has 5 assistants in either a defensive coordinator or head coach capacities: Sean McDermott, Leslie Frazier, Steve Spagnolo, Jim Harbaugh, and Ron Rivera.

Johnson will surely be missed. Jim Johnson: 1941-2009.

Roy Halladay: More Trade Implications

24 07 2009

Despite the fact that Roy Halladay would immediately make the Phillies a more dangerous team than they already are in the National League, there are some drawbacks.  The drawbacks are few and somewhat inconsequential, but they exist none the less. First, the Phillies would not only be adding approximately 20 million in salary commitments in the next 15 months, they are also subtracting cheap players as well.  Here is a list of all contracts and obligations for 2010 courtesy of mlbcontracts.com.  Read the rest of this entry »

24 07 2009

Sources are indicating that the Phillies and Blue Jays have indeed begun discussing the parameters of a deal that would bring Roy Halladay to the Phillies for a package headlined by Kyle Drabek. The other pieces reportedly being discussed are J.A. Happ and Dominic Brown. J.A. is of course on the major league roster, while Dom Brown is currently playing for the Clearwater Threshers in the Florida State League and Drabek is in Reading. Toronto GM J.P. Ricciardi has been quoted as saying these negotiations have begun. More info on this story as it develops.

Side Note: It is also being reported that the Blue Jays have scouts watching Carlos Carrasco pitch tonight for the Lehigh Valley Iron Pigs. This is notable because the players i mentioned above are the starting point and by no means definite. Let’s see how this develops.

76ers Trade Scenarios

24 07 2009

by John Ryan

I know, I know. Roy Halladay-mania is dominating the headlines and there is not much else to care about as a Philly sports fan, right? While I’ll admit that the possible acquisition of a player of his caliber will be a huge windfall for a sports crazed city, there are still other sports stories going on in the tri-state area. One of which is the 76ers fading hopes for anything of substance in the 2009-2010 season. Have no fear. While your reading up on Roy Halladay’s stats, and how he’ll look in red and white pinstripes, everyone’s favorite rambler will delve into the ESPN NBA trade machine world to see whats-what with the 76ers trade prospects.  Away we go…..(Quick Disclaimer: most, if not all, of these will include Samuel Dalembert) Read the rest of this entry »
