Numerous reports have surfaced linking Allen Iverson to his former team, the Philadelphia 76ers. A possible reunion has been a major
talking point since Philadelphia starting point guard Lou Williams suffered a broken jaw. The injury will sideline Williams for approximately eight weeks. The move would make sense for the 76ers, who are ranked 29th in league in attendance, besting only the Memphis Grizzlies, the team Iverson started the season with but quickly became unhappy with his role on. Iverson’s presence could certainly help boost fan interest, at least in the short term.
Just this Wednesday, Iverson, who is now 34 years of age, announced his plans to retire from the NBA on Steven A. Smith’s web site. Now, just three days later, Smith is reporting that the Sixers are nearing a deal with Iverson which could be finalized early next week.
