Just when I thought YOU weren’t getting a Tuesday Ramblings, the Eagles went and made another odd move in what seems like an endless supply since last free agency started. We’ve been through them all so I won’t re-hash, but really, did you ever think Jeremiah Trotter would be back on this team in any other capacity besides, “team ambassador.” I knew you didn’t. Anyways, on to the real thing………… Read the rest of this entry »

Plaxico Found by the Sistas? Phillies Still Closer-less? It’s Ramblings Time………
25 09 2009by John Ryan
In my busyness (editor’s note: Go back to sleep old man, you’ve got a long day of drinking and beating the shi* out of me tomorrow), I neglected to fire off a ramblings early in the week. Because of this travesty, you get a preview of the coming weekend as opposed to a recap. Off we go………
1.) The NY Daily News is Reporting Plaxico Burress is having a rough first week in prison. I gotta say this right off the bat: I think it’s hilarious. He’s a 6’6″ NFL player, and yet he is probably scared to death. While I won’t say prison is a joke, I just keep

Down Goes Fraser!
25 09 2009On March 4, 2009, the Philadelphia Flyers traded fan favorite Scottie Upshall (forward) and a 2011 second-round draft pick to the Phoenix Coyotes in exchange for forward Daniel Carcillo. Carcillo, who grew up a Flyers fan, amassed 254 penalty minutes while playing for Phoenix and Philly in the 2008-2009 season. No other player in the league eclipsed 200. Said GM Peter Chiarelli of the Boston Bruins upon hearing news of the trade last year, “That will make them funner to play against.” This video might demonstrate what he meant.

Eagles Work Out Jeremiah Trotter
24 09 2009by Michael DeLuca
ESPN’s Adam Schefter is reporting via Twitter that the Philadelphia Eagles brought in former middle linebacker Jeremiah Trotter for a workout. Trotter has not played a single down since 2007 when he was used sparingly by the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and then went down with a knee injury. He’s had two seperate stints with the Eagles already, from 1998-2001 and again from 2004-2006. Believe it or not, Trotter is only 32 years of age.

Eagles Add TE
24 09 2009by Michael DeLuca
The Philadelphia Eagles have officially announced the release of Rob Myers from the practice squad and have replaced him with Martin
Rucker, who was released by the Cleveland Browns on Tuesday. Rucker was a fourth-round pick in 2008 from Missouri and was believed to be the Browns TE of the future not long ago. Many believed the team traded All-Pro tight end Kellen Winslow Jr. to the Tampa Buccaneers in order to make room for Rucker in the starting lineup. In the end, the Browns viewed Rucker as an above average pass catcher but inadequete blocker. In other words, the type of TE that the Eagles covet.

76ers Add Four
19 09 2009The Philadelphia Inquirer is reporting that Dionte Christmas, Sean Singletary, Brandon Bowman, and Jared Reiner have been extended
free agent invitations to join the Philadelphia 76ers training camp roster. Yes, there’s still a basketball team in Philadelphia.
Christmas, a Philadelphia native and Temple standout, was surprisingly undrafted and participated on the Sixers/Nets Pro Summer League team in July.
Singletary is also a Philadelphia native and attended Penn Charter and later started all 90 games he appeared in at Virginia. The 6’0 guard was Sacramento’s second-round pick in the 2008 draft. Read the rest of this entry »

NFL: PCP’s Power Rankings
17 09 2009
1. Pittsburgh Steelers – They didn’t look great against Tennessee but they managed to get the victory. I’ll reserve the top spot for the defending Super Bowl champs for the time being, but the Polamulu injury (left mcl, 3-6 weeks) will really make the next few weeks a lot more difficult.
2. Minnesota Vikings – The part that bothers me about this team is that I think they’re going to make a real run…and would have without Favre as well. Peterson is a beast, but the true strength of this team is in the trenches, where Minnesota very well may have both the best offensive and defensive lines in the game.
3. Philadelphia Eagles – Blowout victory over a very good Panthers team catapults the Birds up this list. Defense was amazingly effective. The McNabb injury will hurt a bit, but the depth at that position is now ridiculous. The only thing that will hold this team back is McNabb playing at less than 100%.
4. New York Giants – Once again, a solid all around team. Great defense, well coached. Read the rest of this entry »

Breaking News: Brian Westbrook Out after 2010?
15 09 2009by John Ryan
I swear I thought i had inked the last Eagles story of the day. Apparently I was wrong, because more news has suddenly surfaced, and this time about a star player. John Clayton of espn.com is reporting that Brian Westbrook’s contract contained a bonus option for 2010 that was not renewed (worth 7 million. The wrinkle in the contract was one of many complicated amendments and clauses made to the nearly 60 page pact. Westbrook’s salary for 2009 rose from 4 million to 5.85 million for this year, and would rise to 7.25 million next year had the Eagles triggered the option. That would have been a huge cap hit for 2010. Westbrook, who just turned 30 on September 2, would also have been in the fold for 2011-2013 had the option been triggered by the Birds (assuming he was not cut or re-negotiated by then).

Breaking News: Vick to be Activated From Exempt List; Eagles to cut Baskett; Kolb on the Block?
15 09 2009by John Ryan
In a week that has been filled with HUGE Eagles stories, the news keeps flowing into the news desks. ESPN.com is reporting that the Eagles will activate Michael Vick from the exempt list, enabling him to practice along with Jeff Garcia this week. (He is still suspended one more week from actual games) Hank Baskett will be the casualty. This goes against what Eagles officials had been saying earlier today when asked if anotehr roster move was forthcoming. The question was asked after Shawn Andrews was placed on the IR earlier today. In other news, there are whispers around the league that the Eagles would welcome a trade of Kevin Kolb in the right deal, however they are not confident that deal is out there, therefore they feel compelled to play him Sunday to see what he actually can offer this team. Whatever Dave Spadaro seems to think or write, the Eagles can not honestly feel comfortable with Kolb in there Sunday seeing as how he has played in his brief career. Granted, he has only thrown 45 pass attempts (to Garcia’s 160+ TD’s, by the way) and he is coming off a nice pre-season finale, but it was against a bunch of guys bagging groceries right now. Sorry, Kolb fans. The Eagles would dump this guy in a Philadelphia minute if they could find any kind of value for a former 2nd round pick. One more quick Vick tidbit: he is expected to practice Wednesday.

BREAKING NEWS: Shawn Andrews Put On IR
15 09 2009by John Ryan
In the most recent development of a series of surreal events, the Eagles have placed Shawn Andrwews on IR for 2009, most
likely ending his tenure in Philadelphia. More news as it becomes available, but from the Eagles vantage point, they must feel it was in their best interest to just move forward with guys who actually wanted to be on the field as opposed to guys who just wanted to “get their Michael Phelps on.”
The move frees up the roster spot needed to add Jeff Garcia, eliminating the necessity to trade Hank Baskett as had previously been rumored. The team may still be attempting to move Baskett, however, since a roster spot could be needed for a returning Jon Runyan.
