Nomar to Philly?

31 08 2009

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that “there remains a small chance Nomar Garciaparra will go to a nomarcontender” before Monday’s waiver trade deadline. Any player acquired after Monday will not be eligible for a team’s postseason roster. Garciaparra, has already cleared waivers, so a trade to any team would be a possibility. The Phillies had expressed interest in Nomar over the winter and, despite Phils’ GM Ruben Amaro Jr. saying the team was through dealing, reportedly sent scouts to watch him play in Anaheim over this past weekend. Despite being healthy, he didn’t. Ben Francisco, Eric Bruntlett, and Miguel Cairo are currently the only right handed options off the bench for the defending World Series champs. Bruntlett and Cairo have combined for just 18 major league hits this season.
