The Philadelphia Eagles and New England Patiriots engaged in a mini bidding war for the services of former Eagle defensive end Derrick Burgess. The Raiders had placed Burgess on the trading block earlier in the offseason and did so again just days ago. The Raiders chose the Pats offer, who are believed to be transferring Burgess to outside linebacker. Adam Schefter’s Twitter reads, “The two teams in on Burgess all along were the Eagles and Pats. Eagles were offering a 3rd-round pick and a player. Pats offer trumped it.” Well, the Raiders really must not have liked the player (Reggie Brown?), since the Patriots only ended up giving up a 3rd and 5th rounder in exchange for Burgess.
