Back by popular demand, the 2009 Ultimate Fantasy Football ADP! Once again, I’m baffled that the average draft positions can vary so greatly from one site to another. With a sample size of 10,000 plus drafts there really should be more consistency. I did realize one reason for the discrepancy though; On several of the mock draft sites, they have their own suggestions for your next pick. This greatly influences who is drafted and in what order. In addition, if a player leaves the draft, many of these sites will auto pick, which will simply go straight by their rankings. This is why a compilation of these many adp’s is so important. In other words, you’re welcome. :-)

Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle is reporting that “there remains a small chance Nomar Garciaparra will go to a 
contender” before Monday’s waiver trade deadline. Any player acquired after Monday will not be eligible for a team’s postseason roster. Garciaparra, has already cleared waivers, so a trade to any team would be a possibility. The Phillies had expressed interest in Nomar over the winter and, despite Phils’ GM Ruben Amaro Jr. saying the team was through dealing, reportedly sent scouts to watch him play in Anaheim over this past weekend. Despite being healthy, he didn’t. Ben Francisco, Eric Bruntlett, and Miguel Cairo are currently the only right handed options off the bench for the defending World Series champs. Bruntlett and Cairo have combined for just 18 major league hits this season.

Jason La Canfora of NFL Network is reporting that the Patriots’ surprising decision to cut quarterback Kevin O’Connell, a third round draft pick in 2008, could be a precursor to a trade that would send Philadelphia Eagles quarterback A.J. Feeley to New England.
La Canfora says that the Patriots are “among the many teams” to have shown interest in Feeley since the team signed Michael Vick. It is expected that Feeley would be the odd man out, since it is unlikely the team would carry four quarterbacks, though they may do so until Vick is fully re-instated. Read the rest of this entry »

I’m just “rambling” a little later this week than us ual, as Monday and Tuesday saw several odd things happen to me personally. I felt like I was in an episode of “Curb Your Enthusiasm.” Anyways, without further ado, away we go……….

Stacy seems like he caught Shawn’s disease “training campitis.” Also, I’d like to see the defense show its chops tonight. I’ve bee saying for months that besides the tandem of Sheldon and Asante, they are grossly overrated. I hope they prove me wrong, but let’s take stock here: 1.) After they lost Stu Bradley, they were left with 3 stiffs at LB, 2.) Trent Cole wears down too easily, and Jacqua Parker is now actively trying to join “The Doobie Brothers,” and 3.) Paul Domowitch is reporting that both the Ravens and the Jets are monitoring how the Philadelphia Eagles preseason wide receivers situation shakes out. Once a position of weakness, the Eagles now have an embarrassment of riches at the wideout position. DeSean Jackson and Kevin Curtis are the starters, while rookie first round selection Jeremy Maclin is expected to be the slot receiver. Reggie Brown, Jason Avant, Hank Baskett, Brandon Gibson, and Danny Amendola round out the rest of the crew. Expect Amendola to be cut and one of the others, most likely Reggie Brown, to be traded. They’ve been impressed with the play of Brandon Gibson and will find a spot for him on the roster.The team will not carry more than six receivers.
The Jets are rediculously thin at the position, with Jerricho Cotchery the being the lone player of substance. The next four receivers on their depth chart have totaled just 92 career receptions. Reggie Brown could step right in and start opposite Cotchery for this team.
The Ravens are coached by former Eagles coordinator John Harbaugh. Harbaugh and Reid have an excellent relationship, so a trade with the Ravens would not be surprising. Baltimore has Mark Clayton and Desmond Mason, who they coaxed out of retirement, as their starters. They have little depth behind them
The Ravens actually had to talk Derrick Mason out of retirement. So a trade with Baltimore seems like a likely scenario.

The Phillies are reportedly checking into the availability of Milwaukee Brewers closer Trevor Hoffman. This news is coming only days after Brad Lidge has blown his 9th save of the year and his ERA ballooned near 8. With Brett Myers also returning, this would give the Phillies a promising back of the bullpen punch, but it begs this question: Would the Phillies leave Brad Lidge off of their post season roster? UPDATE: Hoffman was claimed by the Giants. He will likely be pulled back by the Brewers.

Remember a few years ago when then Dallas Cowboys head coach refused to refer to Terrell Owen by his name or his T.O. moniker? Well, it seems Andy Reid has decided to take the same approach with Shawn Andrews, referring to Andrews as “that person.” Reid has reportedly been frustrated with Andrews absence from training camp, feeling that Andrews should suck it up, in reference to his injured back.
“Right now Winston Justice is doing a good job, so right now Winston Justice is the guy,” Reid said. “That’s how I look at it until that person gets back in there.”
According to the Associated Press, “Andrews tested his back on Sunday by running 14 40-yard sprints. He also did core and other conditioning drills, and worked on the side with head athletic trainer Rick Burkholder during Monday’s practice.”
“I’m feeling great,” he said. “Can I take on a bull rush right now? I don’t know. We’re taking the necessary precautionary steps.”
Peter King of SI.com has a quote from Tony Dungy , Michael Vick’s mentor following his release from prison, in his Monday Morning QB column. Dungy assisted Vick in his return to the NFL. The quote is in reference to a recent New York Post report that Vick was spotted sipping on pineapple juice and Grey Goose at a hotel bar.

Says King, “Vick can have a drink; that does not violate any terms of his return to the NFL. But Dungy’s point was that Vick needs to be a saint as he gets back on the road to a life in football. He can’t give the media or the public any ammunition to suggest he isn’t doing everything he can to live a clean life and devote himself totally to football. Unfair? Yes. But until Roger Goodell green-lights Vick back into football, Vick has to be sure he doesn’t give anyone reason to doubt him.”
PCPTAKE: This isn’t exactly earth shattering news but everything Vick has done has caused a firestorm recently. You would think that if Dungy truly were Vick’s mentor, they would have had a discussion regarding the use of alcohol at some point. The fact of the matter is, most likely, that Dungy was ceremoniously named Vick’s “mentor” solely to put a well respected name in association with Vick. The two have probably had minimal contact.
I’d have to agree with King that Vick will have to refrain from any activity which may give the public any ammunition to suggest he has not reformed, no matter how unfair that may be. But, at the end of the day, consuming alcohol can cause people to make poor decisions based upon impaired judgement, not engage in cruel and inhumane acts over a sustained period of time. The two acts are entirely unrelated and people are just picking at sore wounds.
