Willingham
It looks like the Phillies and the Nationals could become trade partners and it could allow the Phillies to add that right-handed bat that they have been looking for. Today on 97.3 ESPN FM in South Jersey, Chuck Hixson from Phillybaseballnews.com said that the Nats have scouted the Phillies minor league games for seven straight nights.
The bat the Phillies the could be interested in…Josh Willinghman.
Willingham is heating up and is having a decent season for the last-place Nats, hitting .284 with 12 home runs. That production would be just what the Phillies need coming off the bench.

In other news, according to Ed Price of the MLB Fanhouse, the Phillies sent a scout to see Arizona right-handed closer Chad Qualls throw over the weekend.
Makes you wonder if the Phils are happy with the Romero, Madsen, Lidge tri-fecta at the back end of the bullpen.
I like Willingham if the price is right. Perfect type of right handed bat to come off the bench.
I don’t think Qualls would be any more than a middle reliever and injury insurance. He’d probably fill the role that Durbin is currently in.
If you heard Chuck, he said it might take Carrasco…Do you want to trade Carracso to get Willingham?
I’d rather hang on to Carrasco. I know he hasn’t performed but the kid is still 22(ish). Willingham would be a decent bat off the bench but I think Amaro/Gillick can find a decent alternative later thru waivers, like they did with Conine/Stairs etc
No, definitely wouldn’t trade Carrasco for him. I think we’re at the point now where we may have to hang on to Carrasco and hope for the best. Hopefully, he’ll just be a late bloomer.
Report today says Kyle Kendrick was puilled from his start at AAA today.
That makes a lot more sense. I’d do Kendrick for Willingham in a heartbeat.
They’re probably just screwing with Kendrick again, like the Japan trade thing.
