Andre Miller is reportedly seeking a three year deal. The Philadelphia 76ers are not. With numerous suitors for
Miller’s services, there is little reason for him to sign a one year deal. The most logical solution? Sign and trade. The latest rumors circulating have the Sixers considering a sign and trade with the Portland Trailblazers that would send Andre Miller to the Blazers for fellow pg Steve Blake. Some sources say the Sixers may get Travis Outlaw back in the proposed deal as well. Both have expiring contracts, which would be very appealing to the 76ers.
Steve Blake spent both his rookie and sophomore seasons in the NBA with the Washington Wizards under, now Philadelphia head coach, Eddie Jordan. He’s a 6’3 six-year pro with deceptive speed. He started 69 games for the Trail Blazers last season, averaging 11.0 points and 5.0 assists per game. More importantly to the Sixers, he shot 42.7% from three point range.
Portland General Manager Kevin Pritchard has already shot down the rumors but, as we all know, that doesn’t mean much any more.
I would love to hang onto Dre for two more years, but it remains to be seen if he would accept less than 3. I think it’s a fair sign-and-trade, though. Blake is OK as a stop gap to Holiday, and Outlaw provides a lot of things to a box sheet, albeit none spectacular.
