“Although the Phillies have not announced their starting pitcher for Thursday in Atlanta, righthander Carlos Carrasco remains a strong possibility to be recalled from triple-A Lehigh Valley. But the organization has also been impressed by righty Drew Carpenter, who may also have a chance to receive the assignment. Because of off days, the Phillies can go without a fifth starter until July 2, but they appeared to be leaning toward recalling either Carrasco or Carpenter.

Carpenter, 24, earned his first-major league win in a spot start in Washington on May 16. Carpenter is 7-1 for the IronPigs, with a 2.75 earned run average. In 65 innings, he was struck out 47 batters and walked 17.”

All good points. I think you only bring Carrasco up if you are determined to move him. I don’t think the Phillies plan on standing pat no matter how well whoever they bring up performs. So, most likely, the guy that comes up is being showcased and will be part of a trade for his replacement. Drabek is probably the only untouchable one in the group and we know how the Phils are with those arbitration eligible years, so don’t look for him to get the call. My vote’s still for Worley.

It’s not always about the numbers. Carrasco has the best stuff in Phillies farm system and sometime it takes that trip to the majors for everything to come together.

only thing Carrasco has going for him is hype, hasn’t pitched effectively at any level yet

drabek is young but is still the best option the team has right now if you are looking at it purely from a win/loss standpoint
