Amaro Too Openly Aggressive?

Ruben Amaro has not been shy about his desire to acquire a front line starter for the defending World Series Champion Philadelphia Phillies.  Amaro most recently declared, “No one’s out there dealing anybody or wanting to part with f9dae89a00_amaro_12162008anybody because the pitchers who are available are, one, hurt (Peavy and Bedard), and two, pitching for teams that don’t think they’re out of the race yet (Harang, Arroyo, Marquis),” Amaro told Scott Lauber. “I know because I’ve asked about every one of them.”

Many feel that Amaro’s candor will ultimately cost the Phillies.  It has been argued that his straightforward attitude will cause teams to drive up the asking price on him in regards to trade negotiations and that he should play things closer to the vest.  I feel differently, however.  By making his desires known, each team in the league is on alert.  He seems determined to get something done and if your team has a pitcher it may want to move, why miss out and let another team get the deal done.  While I certainly don’t know all the dynamics, it would seem to create urgency for all involved parties.

On the other hand, if Amaro were to simply say “we want (insert pitcher here)”, than yeah….that would be a problem.
