Avery Johnson...next Sixer coach?
Avery Johnson has won 194 games as a head coach. More then any Sixer coach can claim since Larry Brown won 255 from 1997-2003. Johnson guided the Mavericks to a 16-2 mark in 18 games, taking over for Don Nelson during the 2004-2005 season. He then became the full-time guy, winning 60 games in his first full season and followed that up with a 61 win season. His final season in Dallas, the Mavs won 51 games, but felt it was time to move on.
During that time, the Sixers have watched Jim O’Brian, Mo Cheeks and Tony DiLeo compile a record of 197-213 (.410), compared to Johnson, who won .735-percent of his games.
While he wasn’t my top choice, he has certinly moved to the top of my list.
