Well into Day 2 now of the draft and the Eagles still have yet to make a selection. Hold on for your hats with this explanation: The Eagles had pick #85 (3rd Round) which they traded to the New York Giants for an additional 6th rounder and their pick (#91, 3rd Round). They then traded that pick to Seattle for yet another fifth and a seventh, and a third rounder next year which is great value, unless you consider the fact that Jared Cook and Chase Coffman (both TE’s) were selected in that range of picks. Now the Eagles will own nearly 1/5 of the fifth round (six overall selections in that round) and two sixth rounders. Let’s see if they trade into the 4th round.
Notes:
- I would still love a big, blocking TE in this draft. Is he out there? We’ll see.
- The Eagles would also be wise to bulk up in the all important areas of OL and DL. As we see every year, (and as evidenced in Duke’s Pick’s last year) teams win with good line play. Just look at what happened to the Jaguars last year (and how they addressed it with two bookend OT in rounds 1-2).
- Would still love a young QB, whether it be a young veteran or a draftee. I believe a player such as Rhett Bowmar (nee of Oklahoma) could be a nice pick up later on today (perhaps a sixth round pick??)
- I also would like an additional RB. Who knows of Lo-Book is going to crack the field, and a guy like Javon Ringer would be a nice pick-up. Two of his better games were in the rain vs. a pesty FAU where he needed to carry the entire load on offense that day, and vs. Notre Dame where he torched them. (Coincidence that he torched my two favorite teams??)
-Will the Eagles trade a veteran, or acquire one? Who knows? Dave Spadaro and Merrill Reese seem to think so on their live draft coverage. I see more maneuvering, whether it be with picks or veterans. And NO, Sheldon Brown is not going to be on the move! (And just so we’re clear, Boldin is not coming here either.)
I’m a bit confused. What does this team plan on doing with 6 fifth rounders? Brent Celek better turn into a pro bowler immediately since the team has now passed on Tony Gonzalez, Brandon Pettigrew, Jared Cook, and Chase Coffman.
So we traded two fifth rounders for Ellis Hobbs. Sure we had to move some picks…but did we really need another punt/kick return guy? I think that makes seven. If I remember correctly, only one guy can return the ball at a time.
