Darin Gantt has made the argument the Philadelphia Eagles might be a likely landing spot for Julius Peppers of the Carolina Panthers in an article at heraldonline.com. His main arguments are the Eagles $30 million in cap space along with their affinity for big name pass rushing ends (Kearse, Douglas, Howard).
It’s always exciting to hear your team in the mix when it comes to a big time trade but I’m not sure this is in the Eagles best interest. DE is hardly a need position, Peppers has already stated he’d like to play in a 3-4, and I feel our plethora of picks could be dealt more wisely. As I’ve mentioned in the past I’d love to see a move up to the #6 spot, currently held by the Cincinnati Bengals, to grab Texas Tech stud receiver Michael Crabtree or a trade to land Kansas City’s TE Tony Gonzalez, who has recently reiterated his desire for a trade. Thoughts?
I think he would be a good fit, the Eagles have decent depth at DE, but Peppers and Cole would be a relentless pass rush.
To get it done ? I would be willing to give up a 2 for Peppers but I like where they are with those 2 picks at 21 and 28.
I agree he could be a good fit, just think we have more pressing needs. Definitely wouldn’t be giving up one of the first rounders, especially since we’d have to give him a ridiculous contract when he gets here.
I think we could use a better DE on the other side of Cole, he seems to slow down as the season goes on. So while its not the most pressing need, I think they could upgrade over there, I am not 100% thrilled with rotation on the other side of Cole.
Make the deal if its a 2nd or lower (obvioulsy) but not for either of the no. 1′s, I would do Boldin though for the 21 or 28
I’d have to agree that I’m not thrilled with the rotation opposite Cole, though it is hard to argue with last year’s results. Parker has been suprisingly consistant, but again, nothing spectacular.
