A source close to Pro Bowl tight end Tony Gonzalez told the Associated Press on Tuesday that he still would like to be traded if the right deal can be made. The unidentified source said “Tony is not demanding a trade. Tony cherishes the time he’s spent with the Chiefs and he loves the way he’s always been treated by the fans there. But he knows of some other teams that would be interested in him and if the right deal can be made, he wants it to be made.”
Team owner Clark Hunt recently told the Kansas City Star, “We certainly will not seek a trade for Tony.” For some reason, many took this statement to mean that Gonzalez absolutely would not be traded but the wording “will not seek” is certainly intriguing. It would seem to me that the Chiefs would than be willing to entertain offers if another team were knocking on their door.
I’ve asserted for some time that Gonzalez would be a perfect fit for the Philadelphia Eagles and with their myriad of draft picks in the upcoming draft, they certainly would have the ammunition if the Chiefs are willing to entertain offers.
