The Eagles weird day has taken another twist.  Cornerback Lito Sheppard has been traded to the New York Jets for a 5th round pick in this years draft and as high as a 2nd round pick in next years draft or as low as a fourth round selection.

The Eagles already have 10 draft picks in this years draft, this makes it 11.  I cant see how this helps them or what they plan to do with an extra 4th round pick.  Lets face it, the Eagles completly blew this whole Lito situation.  This guy was a Pro Bowl corner, and the dont grow on trees, they traded him away for a 5th round pick, or a guy who has no gurantee of ever making the team.

Bye, Bye B-Dawk

According to the San Francisco Chronicle safety Brain Dawkins is no longer an Eagle. He has signed a free agent deal with the Denver Broncos. Correll Buckhalter will join him in Denver, Sean Considine will play for the Jacksonville Jaguars and LJ Smith will head to Atlanta and play for the Falcons.

This could be one of the saddest things I have ever had to write.  On the same day I had the chance to talk to Michael Jack Schmidt, Brian Dawkins has left the Eagles.  I still cant belive it, I am stunned.

The Tampa Bay Buccaneers have traded for Tight End Kellen Wilslow Jr., formally of the Clevland Browns.  The deal is for undisclosed draft picks.  Depending on what those draft picks turn out to be, if they Eagles could have been in this coversation, would you be willing to have given the Browns a 2nd round pick for Wilsow?

This is the kind of move that makes me mad, I dont know what rouund choices the Bucs gave up, but I think Wilsow would be a great get for the Birds.

Overall, I think the Eagles need a blocking Tight end more then a pass catching tight end, but they cant expect Brent Celeck to be an every-down guy and expect to be able to run the ball effectivly.  He couldnt block you or me at this stage of his career.  The kid can get open and catch passes, but his blocking is as bad as an Adam Eaton start.

Those of you who still are holding out hope for Tony Gonzalez, I wouldnt hold your breath.  When was the last time you heard his name mentioned in trade talks. Now that Todd Haley is there and Scott Peoli is in place, Tony G. is fine right where he is.  Kansas City will be everyones Miami Dolphins this year.  A team that stunk the joint up and then makes the playoffs the next season.

Houshmanzadeh: “If they want me I will be an Eagle tomorrow.”

TJ Houshmanzadeh has made no secret that he would like to be a part of the Philadelphia Eagles organization. Earlier today, Cincinnati left tack Stacy Andrews agreed to terms with the Birds and Houshmanzadeh would love to be the second Bengals player to depart for the City of Brotherly Love. Just this morning, Houshmanzadeh sent a message to ESPN 950 that read: “I don’t know what’s gonna happen, if they want me I will be an Eagle tomorrow.”

The only question that remains is “why wouldn’t the Eagles want him?” Age is the only factor that comes to mind. Houshmandzadeh will be 32 years of age at the start of the 09′ regular season. The wide receiver position has been in a state of flux for the Eagles since the departure of Donte Stallworth. Rookie Desean Jackson was the lone bright spot in 08′ and even his play was inconsistent. Veteran Kevin Curtis, who led the team with 1110 receiving yards in 2007, missed the first six games of the regular season with a sport hernia. When healthy, Curtis is a reliable option, but is at his best when playing out of the slot. Reggie Brown, a former 1st round selection, has only regressed since a stellar rookie campaign and has been rumored to be traded to the Rams, possibly in an exchange for Torry Holt.

Ageism aside, TJ Houshmandzadeh would seem to be a perfect fit for the Philadelphia Eagles. Let’s start off the field. Houshmanzadeh has been a model citizen for the most dysfunctional group of hoodlums the NFL has to offer. In an era where the phrases “star wide receiver” and “prima dona” go hand in hand, Housh is an anomoly.

On the field, the man only gets better with age. Barring 2003, which saw Housh sidelined for all but two contests due to injury, he has literally improved each and every year from one season to the next. In fact, at 31 years of age, Houshmandzadeh has set the stage for his crowning achievement. Despite an injury to star quarterback Carson Palmer, Housh had 92 receptions for 904 yards! All this, with former Harvard quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick delivering him the pigskin and not partaking in the final game of the season. So, final verdict, yeah I’d said Houshmandzadeh would be a fantastic fit for the Birds. Am I alone?

We interupt the NFL news and notes to let you know that the Phillies have put finally put Adam Eaton out of his misery, releasing the biggest mistake of the Pat Gillick era.

He went 14-18 with a 6.10 ERA in 51 appearances (49 starts) for the Phillies and made a grand total of $24.5 million for that effort including $8.5 million this season, plus a 500,000 club option for next season.

That means he is offically out of the running for that number five spot in the rotation, not that he was ever in that race to begin with – he stunk.

Stacy Andrews To Sign With Birds

A league source has told profootballtalk.com’s Mike Florio that tackle Stacy Andrews, brother of Philadelphia Eagles RG Shawn Andrews, has agreed to terms with the Philadelphia Eagles.  Per the source, it’s a multi-year deal averaging $7 million per season.  Details of the contract are not know at this point in regards to guaranteed money.  In late 2008, Stacy Andrews, then with the Cincinnati Bengals, suffered a torn ACL.  Many believed Andrews would have to sign a “prove it” deal, meaning he’d have a low guarantee making him easily dispensible if he hadn’t proven to be back to full health in 2009.  The Eagles most likely chose to defer any large payments until March 2010 for just that reason.  The deal hinges on Andrews passing a physical.  With the tandem of  Tra Thomas and Jon Runyan being unrestricted free agents, it was important for the Eagles to strike quickly in the tackle market.  Recent comments from Tra Thomas made it seem very unlikely he’d be returning to the Eagles.  There is a higher likelihood that Runyan will be back with the team, though the Birds would then have two starting tackles who are recovering from major surgery.

(10:57 am) Philadelphiaeagle.com reports the Eagles could trade Reggie Brown for Tory Holt.

(10:55 am) Profootballtalk.com says the Eagles have singed Shawn Andrews brother Stacey Andrews from the Cincy Bengals.  The report says he is slated to make about $7 million in a multi-year deal, he is a LT, LG, RT, versitile guy.

(10:51am ) Sporting News says Bart Scott is a Jet.

Are The Eagles finally done with McNabb?? I am!!

How ridiculous is this? “I don’t want to negotiate an extension until I see how the team will improve itself this off season.” Who said this? Why it’s the franchise quarterback of the Philadelphia Eagles Donovan McNabb. Not T.O. Not any of the other greedy me-first superstars in the NFL but the one and only quarterback that everyone seems to think Philly needs.

Not me! Enough is Enough. This statement reeks of holding the team hostage and I’m sick of it. I wasn’t his biggest fan to begin with and it’s time to cut the umbilical cord that he’s got attached to Andy Reid. On top of that, he had a private meeting with Reid and Joe Banner to “clear the air” about his Week 12 benching…what?

Here’s my thought. trade his ass to Chicago or wherever he wants throw his high and outside and low and away bouncers. Sign Jeff Garcia to a 2 year contract with the understanding that Garcia will mentor the next QB that the Eagles draft and it’s not Kevin Kolb or A.J. Feeley. There’s going to be some good quarterbacks out there over the next 2 years and this would ; A) give the Birds a legit leader with some balls. Remember his leading the Eagles when the precious choke artist was hurt? and B) allow the Eagles to groom the next long term signal caller of the future without having to throw him to the wolves too early.

Of course that quarterback guru tandem of Reid and Moringwheg could’ve had Brady Quinn but TRADED UP to get Kolb…I know you’ve gotta be scratching your head over that one aren’t you? PLUS the Eagles need shoring up at a few different positions and have some tough decisions about free agents. Read the rest of this entry »
