In the ever changing world that is the Winter Meetings, where news can literally be updated from minute to minute, is it possible that the end game in the Jake Peavy trade drama could be a three way deal involving the Padres, Angels, and the Phillies, with Chone Figgins heading to the City of Brotherly Love? The latest word out of Vegas has the Angels as the new frontrunner in the Peavy sweepstakes. Assuming that a third team would still be required to return a starting pitcher to the Padres, the Phils could have a legit shot at landing the Angel’s uber utility player with either Happ or Kendrick (please be Kendrick) landing in the Whale’s Vagina.
Figgins, capable of playing all infield and outfield positions, would be a tremendous addition to the defending World Series Championship Phillies’ roster. He would be a more than adequete replacement at second base while Chase Utley recovers from injury. Figgins could platoon or even replace Feliz at third should Pete Happy struggle in his sophomore season with the Phils. The Phils could even gamble on a low risk (financially)/high reward replacement for Pat Burrell in left field with Figgins ready to take over if necessary. In addition, adding Figgins would eliminate the need for the team to add a new defensive replacement/pinch runner type.
At this point, this is purely speculation, conjecture, and wishful thinking. Of course, so is all of the other ”news” that doesn’t involve a New York team during the Winter Meetings.
