Duke’s Ramblings

Some random thoughts regarding the weekend’s sports.

1.  I’m an Eagle fan, but was thrilled to see them get throttled.  I was even kind of pissed that Demps returned the kickoff.  No matter how attached Lurie is to Reid, a shutout would have to at least get us a step closer to getting the fat man out of here.  The final straw for me was last week’s decision to play for a tie by punting on fourth and one with just a minute and a half remaining in overtime.  I will now root for the Eagles to get continuously pounded until a change is made.

2.  Why wasn’t Leodis McKelvin starting before?  Honestly, this kid’s just ridiculous.  Two interceptions in his first start, one returned 64 yards for a touchdown.  And what about Trent Edwards?  Was this the same frightened little Sally who just last week was too scared to throw the ball downfield?  Guess the Chiefs are a nice remedy for any slumping team.

3.  Norv Turner once again screwed the pooch.  This time, he left 1:30 minutes on the clock for Peyton Manning to bring the Colts into field goal range.  A first down incomplete pass during the Chargers’ final possession would have stopped the clock.  A run on that play and SD would have at least had a shot in overtime.

4.  Braylon Edwards simply can’t catch.  It’s disturbing.

5.  I think it’s safe to say the Jets have shaken the Jeckyl and Hyde inconsistencies that plagued them early on in the season.  Though all the talk continues to revolve around Favre, the true secret to this team has been it’s defensensive unit.  On Sunday, against the Titans, they held on opponent’s offense to under 300 yards for the third time in four games.

6.  Honest to god question?  Has there ever been a worse defense than the Denver Broncos?  Ever?

Minnasota Vikings 2000 defense was worse, I think.

Agree on Jets. When Favre threw 10+ yards down field, he was human. When he played small ball and let his O-line and running game take charge he was very effective.
