Selig Has Failed As Commissioner Again…
by John Leon

The ridiculous way that Bud Selig and Major League baseball screwed the Phils out of a possible clinching game, just understates what we’ve all felt all along and now have realized. Bud Selig may be in the Top 5 of the worst Commissioners ever to grace the MLB stage.

The All-Star fiasco was one thing but what he did to the Phils was so blatantly absurd that it bears analyzing. The Phils were leading 2-1 in the bottom of the fifth inning, which would have made it an OFFICIAL game according to the rules. But No!!!

Enter the Undertaker Selig and his infinite twisted wisdom to allow the game to be continued in weather that even ducks wouldn’t want to be in. Bear in mind, the Phils ace Cole Hamels, was now relegated to one pitch, a fastball. This was due to the fact that his 3rd best pitch, a curve ball was not even considered and his “out” pitch, his devastating change, couldn’t be gripped properly in the slop.

NFL Week 8: The Duke’s Picks

25 10 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Last week I got ballsy and told you to forget Brandon Lang and  Bob Valentino. I went so far as to tell you that the “experts” at Sportsline were laughable. You’d have to figure that bout of detestable bravado would result in a losing week for The Duke’s Picks.  Well it didn’t and The Duke’s picks is now a miraculous 27-19 against the spread thus far this NFL season with just one losing week on the entire season! Last week, I gave you the Bills over the Chargers, told you the Titans would roll over the Chiefs, and told you no matter how atrocious the Lions may be, that the Texans laying nine would be too much. So, once again, forgot calling that 1-900 number. Put your credit card away. The Duke’s here and he’s got the best picks on the planet…or at least the cheapest. Home teams are in caps, Duke’s Picks are in bold.

PITTSBURGH STEELERS -3 NY Giants- This is the type of game that can really piss off a defending Super Bowl Champion.  The Steelers’ are the current flavor of the month, recently eclipsing the Giants on the majority of major media Power Rankings.  Look for the Boys In Blue to make this a statement game.  No Santonio “Panama Red Zone” Holmes will help.  The Giants defensive front is the best the Steelers’ depleted offensive line will face all season.  Expect Roethlisberger to be running for his life.

DALLAS COWBOYS -4 Tampa Bay Buccaneers - In the interest of full disclosure, Tampa Bay has historically been The Duke’s kryptonite.  I can’t bet with or against them.  That being said, the Cowboys have been atrocious the last couple weeks and Brad Johnson definitely did not seem to gel with the offense in his start last week against the lowly Rams defense.  Tampa, on the other hand, seems to have gotten into a nice rhythm with Jeff Garcia back at the helm.  It may be close, but if Dallas pulls it out, I don’t see it being by more than a field goal.  Read the rest of this entry »

Ultimate ADP – Fantasy Basketball

24 10 2008

by Michael DeLuca

Based on the tremendous success of our Ultimate ADP for Fantasy Football, I’ve decided to post an Ultimate ADP for Fantasy Basketball. There are only two major sources on the net for ADP in fantasy basketball, Yahoo and ESPN. I’ve combined their overall ADP’s to come up with the Ultimate Fantasy Basketball ADP. Players with astericks have somewhat significant injuries which are summarized at the bottom of the post.

The Phix Is In

24 10 2008

by MIchael DeLuca

The series was already in danger of having the lowest viewership in World Series history.  The Red Sox, the Yankees, the Cubs, all long gone.  A 2-0 Phillies lead with the series heading back to Philly would be disastrous for Major League Baseball.  Who would be tuning in?

As much as we all in the Philadelphia area love our Phillies, the story of this World Series is the engrossing tale of the Tampa Bay Rays meteoric rise from worst to first.  2-0 would have ended that fairy tale.  2-0 would have diminished the already waning interest of the most dedicated baseball fans.

And so, Brett Myers, with a full count, records a strikeout against Rocco Baldelli….which is then appealed to first base and becomes a walk.  And Jimmy Rollins is hit by a pitch…that doesn’t get him on base.  And thus, the series is now tied at 1-1.  The fairy tale, as contrived and ho hum as it may be, is given new legs.

Now, in the interest of full disclosure, I’m a Phillies fan.  And, on occasion, a hazardous conspiracy theorist.  So please help me out, our my concerns unsubstantiated?  Was home plate umpire Kerwin Danley influenced by Major League Baseball to even this series up or is he simply the biggest ass-clown ever to be placed behind the plate for a World Series game (I’ll accept no other answers).

PHILADELPHIA 76ERS 2008-09 OPENING NIGHT ROSTER

23 10 2008

By Mike Gill

With all the hoopla surronding the Phillies in the World Series (deservingly so), the Sixers will open their season on Wednesday.

After closing out the preseason with a win over the Nets, the Sixers finalized thier roster by cutting back-up big man Jared Reiner bringiing their roster down to 14 active bodies and one inactive – Jason Smith.

A few things stand out during the preseason:

  • Rookie Marreesse Speights has earned some playing time in the big-man rotation and could get some minutes at center if their is some four trouble.
  • Guards Kareem Rush, Royal Ivey and Willie Green will be fighting for playing time.  I dont see how any of these guys stay happy the entire season, but I hope I am wrong, lots of depth here.
  • The Sixers still have trouble defending the three-point shot and can’t defendall that much either.  To win a playoff round, you must do both -  so far they still can’t.
  • I still am not sure what role Donyell Marshall will play on this team, I liked the signing, but I am not sure what role he will have or if he still can help a team.

Here is the 2008-2009 editon of the Philadelphia 76ers: Read the rest of this entry »
