Kendrick Bombed – Manuel To Blame

9 09 2008

Kyle Kendrick lasted all of 1 1/3 innings, giving up a whopping 7 runs to the lowly Florida Marlins.  The real question is, who didn’t see this coming? Apparently Charlie Manuel, who despite skipping Kendrick in the rotation last week after he posted a 9.14 ERA in his previous five starts, decided to send him to the bump tonight. In addition to his recent woes, Kendricks has also struggled against the Marlins this season with a 6.10 ERA in two outings. Kendrick has been relieved by J.A. Happ, who many (yours truly included) believe should have started the game. Just 1 1/2 games back of the New York Mets in the NL East Standings, the Phillies can really not afford this type of nefarious decision making. I’ve laid off Charlie for most of the year, but this miscue is simply inexcusable.

I think they should have got rid of Kendrick, having him around just gave them reason to use him again. Anyone who thought he was a MLB caliber pitcher was an idiot.

Kendrick was quoted as saying Monday night to Chaly Manuel and Rich Doobie Doobie Doo that he lacked in confidence and did NOT want to take the hill. Some picthers have a bulldog mentality (Lidge, Myers) and others, like Kendrick, are like scared poodles. Hey, at least he knows he’s going to get cracked!

Agree with Duke, though, this one falls on Chaly for throwing a guy clearly not ready to go mentally (and perhaps physically) in a playoff chase. Blind allegiance is for orgies, not professional baseball.

I agree with Kenny, I think Kendrick might have had a lil value and could have brought in a veteren bat. Now, he and Adam Eaton have something in common, both wont’t pitch in a meaningful game the rest of the season and nodoby wants them.

Kendrick has been terrible for the phils this year a 5.44 ERA over 150 innings but over all they don’t have another starter to really fill that role. Outside of Hamels who got roughed up by the mets on sunday night and Moyer who can be hit or miss with innings pitched in a game and with a not so great bullpen right now you have to leave him in that rotation. Let him go 4 innings and hope for the best.

Let him go 4 and hope for the best???? They have NOTHING to lose by trotting out Carlos Carrasco, J.A. Happ, or even Adam Eaton! Kendrick has proven that he can’t be trusted. Throw out last year and throw out his first 18 or so starts. They are irrelevant in this race. There’s only 17 games to go for God’s sake!

PS: Why is Carassco still not up???????

Let’s not get too crazy here John. The only thing that would have gotten me more fired up than starting Kendrick is if they actually trotted Eaton out there. I absolutely agree that Carrasco should be up with this team right now, there’s no excuse there (cheap bastards).
