Three seasons ago Donyell Marshall hit 12 three-point shots against the Sixers in one game while with the Toronto Raptors – now he will be a Sixer.
According to Phil Jasner of the Philadelphia Daily News, the 76ers have agreed to terms with unrestricted free agent forward Donyell Marshall. Marshall, was owed $5.9 million by the Oklahoma City Thunder, formerly the Seattle Supersonics, for the 2008-2009 season before being bought out on Wednesday, August 20th. Marshall will make the minimum salary for players with at least 10 seasons of NBA experience, which is $1,262,275. In Marshall, the Sixers have added yet another weapon that they dearly needed, a three-point threat. Marshall is a perfect piece to an already talented puzzle, adding a veteran player with some size who can shoot from the perimeter.
The Sixers shot a league worst 32-percent from three-point land last season and have already added Kareem Rush to help in that department. Adding Marshall makes them very dangerous. In 2004-2005, the former UCONN star drilled 42-percent of his three-point tries. For his career, Marshall has connected on over 34-percent of his three-point shots.
This move makes a lot of sense, the Sixers were in need of not only another shooter, but also a forward and veteran presence. Marshall also has 41 games of playoff experience under his belt – key on such a young team that has high expectations.
Ed Stefanski should be applauded for this move, it might slip under the radar, but if Marshall is hotin the playoffs, he can shoot you through one round – much like he did on March 13th 2005, hitting a league record 12 threes in one game. At times last year, it seemed to take the Sixers a week to make 12 three-pointers. They just signed that many in one day with the addition of Donyell Marshall.
This is a very good addition to a team that was already going in the right direction.

I love this pick up. Along with Kareem Rush with now have two legitimate outside shooters to pair with a dominating inside presence, Elton Brand.
I just wonder who the odd man out is now…Willie Greene seems like the logical choice, but he is like the Greg Lewis of the Sixers, we all want him gone, but the coaches love him.
Codulnt agree more on Willie Green. According to basketball god aka John Hollinger, Wille Green is one of the top 10 overrated players, and top 10 least productive players per 40 minutes. Nice guy, but his contract is classic Billy King. Gave him all those years and money when there was no market for him anywhere else, and all of this AFTER he had that major knee injury.
Like the signing. Stefanski has now brought in 2 3-point shooters for the minimum each. Nice work!
I think this is a great deal. Donyell Marshall can still shoot, he was hurt last season and was on a bad Seattle team and out of place in Cleveland. The Sixers have just entered my top 4 in the east.
