After team’s were forced to cut their rosters to 53 men on Saturday, August 30th, a few nice new wide receiver options have opened up for the injury plagued Philadelphia Eagles. While the team will tell you they’re not in the market, it is widely assumed they will be adding another target for quarterback Donovan McNabb before the start of the season. Let me know what you think of the following options…
Chad Jackson – 2nd round selection of the Patriots in 2006. Flashed big play potential at the combine, but hasn’t show much (other than fragility) since. Has the physical tools and could still become a decent player.
Brandon London- At 6’4 and 210 pounds, London had a nice preseason and was really just a victim of circumstance when it comes to being cut by the New York Giants. It basically came down to London and Sinorice Moss and, as many teams do, the Giants tried to save face by keeping the player they invested the most in. Update: London has been picked up by the Miami Dolphins. Shame, because he was actually one of my favorite options here.
Samie Parker – Potential deep threat with blazing speed. Has dealt with numerous injuries.
Travis Taylor – 9 year veteran who bounced between Oakland, St. Louis, and Carolina last year.
Roydell Williams – Led the Titans in receptions last year with 55 but was having a tough time returning from an ankle injury from last year that required surgery in January.
Willie Reid- 25 years old former Florida State standout and 3rd round selection of the Steelers has yet to deliver at the pro level. Update – Eagles have claimed Reid and placed him on their practice squad.
Ashley Lelie – Once a promising prospect for the Broncos, this former Hawaii standout is a 7 year veteran with little left in the tank. Update: Lelie signed with the Oakland Raiders on Monday, September 1.
Travis Wilson- 3rd round selection of the Browns in 2006. One of the top receivers in school history at Oklahoma. While there, he amassed 105 receptions and 1,315 yards (12.5 avg.) He also had 17 TDs in 42 games.
Glenn Martinez – 3rd year wideout out of Saginaw Valley college. Martinez had a stellar preseason but is already 27 and has limited upside.
Willie Reid is now on the practice squad, and Chad Jackson has been cut and is available. He’d be a nice gamble. Love the Reid signing to the practice squad.
