Following their third preseason game, the 53-man roster is really taking shape and after tonight’s game with the Jets, it should be pretty clear. Yes, Jobs were won, and some were lost and a key injury to Kevin Curtis really shakes some things up. Here is my third look at the 53-man roster for the Eagles. These are the guys I think will be on the team for week one when the Eagles host the Rams. I will be back after the Jets game to update any changes I think need to be done.
Starters Listed in bold :
QB (2) – Donovan McNabb, Kevin Kolb – With the injuries to Curtis and Victor, the Eagles will cut AJ Feely, Kevin Kolb is the back-up.
RB (3) – Brian Westbrook, Lorenzo Booker, Correll Buckhalter – Westbrook will be an all-pro, but Booker will see significant time in passing situations.
FB (1) – Jed Collins – I still think Collins holds the advantage here, I wasn’t impressed with Hunt at FB.
WR (6) – Kevin Curtis, Reggie Brown, DeShawn Jackson, Hank Baskett, Jason Avant, Greg Lewis – Curtis will miss at least the first three games, he could be put on the PUP list and miss the first six games, but I think the Eagles are hopeful he returns sooner. Jackson looks like he will be a part of this mix, I see five guys with at least 25 grabs.
TE (3) – LJ Smith, Brent Celek, Matt Schobel - Kris Wilson will be let go, but I still think they stay with three TE’s, Celek will see more time then you think.
OL (11) – Jon Runyan, Tra Thomas, Jamaal Jackson, Shawn Andrews, Todd Herramans, Max Jean-Gillis, Scott Young, Winston Justice, Nick Cole, Mike McGlynn, King Dunlap- There could be a guy left off here, or a guy replaced, this is a good deep line.
DL (8) – Broderick Bunkley, Mike Patterson, Trevor Laws, Trent Cole, Jaqua Parker, Chris Clemons, Jerome McDougle, Darren Howard – I still think McDougle starts, but Clemons could be let go, even though I think it would be a mistake, but I think he stays.
LB (7) – Stewart Bradley, Chris Gocong, Omar Gaither, Akeem Jordan, Joe Mays, Rocky Boiman, Andy Studebaker – Good core, depth is shaky, Studebaker is the 53rd man right now.
DB (9) – Brian Dawkins, Quintell Mikel, Lito Sheppard, Sheldon Brown, Asante Samuel, Quinton Demps, Kyle Arrington, Sean Considine, Joselio Hanson – Unless Lito gets traded (which isnt happening) between now and next week, this is the strength of the D. I think Considine makes the team, now that JR is out as a returner he gets cut and Arrington makes it.
K – David Akers – Only guy in town.
P – Sav Rocca – See above
LS – Jon Dorenbos – See above
Practice Squad – (WR) Michael Gasperson, (WR) Jamal Jones, (OL) Mike Gibson, (S) Marcus Paschal, (DE) Bryan Smith – There is something I like about Jones, but its doubtful he makes the PS, the rest should be here.
PUP - Victor Abimiri
So really the only change is Feely is off, and Arrington is in and so is King Dunlap
Agree or disagree? What guess did I leave off that you think should be on the team.

Bryan Smith will never make it through waivers the to the practice squad. Hes proven to be too good. Same with Gibson. But they may get a phantom injury that puts them on ir cause it doesnt look like they will play much this season. Same with Tony Hunt he isnt getting cut cause he was a third round pick last year and he wasnt bad at FB and thats what they wanted out of him. Someone that wouldnt screw it up. Also I dont see them keeping 7 linebackers. Studebaker is prob the odd man out causing AJ Feely to be on the team. You just dont want to risk the QB position with injuries. Remember the season with Mcmann that was dreadful. I also think J.R. Reed beats out Sean Considine (its painful to watch him). I should be interesting to see how this works out.
I think after last nights game my roster is going to change alot. They have some tough decsisons to make…This is a good team in my opinion.
I think Bryan Smith makes the team and Scott Young goes to the practice squad. If the Eagles don’t pick up another receiver, Gasperson might make the 53 man roster as well.
